Our babies are actually starting to sleep through the night! However, I'm wondering since they are underweight for their age if we should still be waking them up to feed them or just let them sleep? They've only done it a few nights this week but if they continue I'm going to call their Ped but I just wondered what your experience was? I go back to work in 4 weeks so I'm trying to establish a routine and feed them every 4hrs (4oz) during the day but let them dictate night time.

Oh and at their last appt JT weighed 7lbs 1oz and Jack weighed 7lbs 14 1/2oz so they are gaining wonderfully......they gained about 2 1/2 lbs in close to 3wks..the Dr was pleased:)

Yours are almost the same age as my preemie twins born November 28th st 33.4wks. Our Pedi says to wake them up every 3 hours during the day to eat and 3 hours at night with one 4 hour stretch allowed. I don't have to wake them up though, they wake on their own every 3 hours to eat but mine only eat 3oz a feeding right now. GL and congrats on your twins! Glad to see they are gaining well.

Wow - their weight gain is great. I would talk to the pedi about the STTN and what he/she thinks. Ours didn't STTN until they were about 3 months old. They were (and still are) eating about every 3 hours. I'm looking forward to the day when it's every 4 hours. Lucky you!

I definitely agree to call your pedi, but I would suggest not waiting just in case. Otherwise, if they are taking in a satisfactory amount of food during the day, I would let them sleep!

What are you considering STTN? Are they going 6, 8, 12 hours? I probably wouldn't let them go 12, but I think 6 or 8 is okay if they are getting enough milk during the day.

I would call the Ped and see what they want you to do.

That's a tough one. I would definitely ask the pedi. If they are satisfied I would be reluctant to start a "habit" of waking at night to eat. My pedi wanted us to wake the girls every 3 hrs to eat until their 4 month appt (mine were smaller than yours though). They are 5 months and still waking at night to eat. They down an 8oz bottle at 3am! I can't break the habit and I can't let them cry. You are VERY lucky to have them STTN at such a young age.

Definitely call the pedi and ask. Our girls were 34weekers and pretty small so we were told to feed them every 3 hours (or more) around the clock. After 2 months we went to every 3-4 hours around the clock, and their 4 month appointment we were told we could see if they'd go longer at night (they dropped one night feeding at that time). But this was after they packed on some pounds. GL.

I guess around 6 or 7...they go down at 10 or 11 and wake up at 5 or 6. During the day they don't have to be woken up, they wake up like clockwork every 4hrs, unless its their nap I let them take on their bellies...I swear they could sleep forever that way (of course  )!!! Then I wake them up to feed them to keep them on schedule.
Thanks...if they continue to do it I will call the Ped...they've only gone 2x this week, if they make it 3 I will call:)
