    Hi Everyone,

I've been told a few times recently to have some preemie clothes for our b/g twins. We have two outfits for each of them given by my aunt and three sleepers for our girl. I figured a few sleepers for our boy maybe? Do we need more than that for our girl? My doctor doesn't think they'll be large babies, they're measuring in the 50th percentile and have been all along. It really depends on what they're born at, which we all know is hard to predict. What do you all suggest? Btw, we have newborn clothing for both of them. TIA :).

We had to send my MIL out for preemie clothes after we got home, because they were just swimming in the newborn things. I think we ended up with about 10 or 12 sleepers total. You can always keep the tags on until you know if you'll need them.

We also ended up with several outfits as gifts and even some hand-me-downs, since a friend of a friend had triplets a year older.

Our boys were born at 33 wks (almost 34). They wore preemie clothes for the first 2 months. One was 4 lbs 10 and the other was 5 lbs at birth. So even though they should have been out of preemie clothes quickly, newborn clothes were way too big. I'd have plenty of sleepers or sleep bags. Everything else is just a pain to change. Oh and maybe a set of onesies for underneath the sleepers, for the cold days. They were in preemie diapers for about the same amount of time also. Hope that helps! Congratulations, by the way!!!

mine were both 6 lbs...and we were in preemie stuff for a lot longer than I had anticipated. Walmart actually has really cute preemie stuff for good prices. Good luck!

May I ask how long they were in preemie clothes...just trying to get a handle of what I should expect to pick up ahead of time. Thanks.

Mine were 5-2 and 6-6 and wore preemie clothes for about 6 weeks, newborn for about a week and are already starting to outgrow 0-3. Go figure. We have tons of 0-3 stuff but had to rush out to get preemie stuff after they were born.

I would also suggest wal-mart! Cute, cheap and everywhere! :)

I wouldn't bother buying any preemie clothes ahead of time. DS was under 5 lb when we brought him home, and he was fine in NB & 0-3. My mom bought him a few preemie outfits, but he outgrew them almost immediately. It really doesn't matter if clothes are a little big on them!

I didnt have any preemie clothes for my babies. My lil girl swims in newborn.. but i think its just a waste of money... Newborn and 0-3 months are just fine, unless they come early... My babies were 7 lbs and 5 lbs and 11 oz

Mine were in preemie for at least 6 weeks I think. The 0-3 months stuff I had was huge on them...and 6lbs is a decent size! It really will depend on your babies---some start growing like weeds right off the bat (like my first son) or they can take a little while to get the ball rolling (like my twins). Of course, a lot of it depends on the brand too. Gerber runs way small, so does old navy...but gymboree and osh kosh are both big.

Both of my girls were born at 6lbs 3oz. So a good size. They wore preemie (5-7lbs) and some newborn for at least a month. I had a really hard time finding preemie. I ordered from sears catalog. The 0-3 month stuff took forever to fit.

This thread is so interesting. Mine were born at 34 weeks and small (see sig) and only wore preemie clothes for 4-5 weeks. As soon as the newborn clothes weren't ridiculously big, around 4 weeks old, they wore newborn size sleepers and onesies. Its interesting that babies twice the size of my peanuts were able to wear preemie clothes for awhile. But someone pointed out the differences in sizing between brands. Like the pp said, gerber runs really small so the girls only wore the preemie onesies for a couple of weeks and then 'just born' size was perfect for them. They had a lot of "Little Me" preemie sleepers that were perfect. If you do get stuff, keep the tags on and keep the receipts, just in case. GL! -Leighann

My DD had 3-4 preemie sleepers for each baby and usually only put them in those when someone was coming by so they'd look cute and wouldn't be swimming in their clothes! They came from Walmart. I believe they outgrew the preemie sleepers in about three weeks (the boys were 6lb 8oz and 6lb 13oz at birth).

She also had several newborn size Carters gowns which were ideal for the first month or so since the length didn't matter and she could roll up the sleeves or use the cuffs on the sleeves to cover the babies' hands if they were scratching themselves. Plus it was easy to change diapers with the gown.

    Good luck to you!

Try e bay for preemie stuff too. That and like others said Walmart. My granddaughters were 5lb 2oz and 5lb 3oz and wore preemie clothes for quite a while especially the onsies and outfits without feet. I would say 4 months. They outgrew the stuff with feet earlier because they were too long. I went out to visit them at 4 1/2 months and Tiana had on a preemie onsie and jumper. There was no way newborn stuff was going to fit the girls. She didnt take any preemie stuff to the hospital and you ought to see them in the outfits they wore home.

P>S. The girls are now 8.5 months and weigh 15+ apiece and aare still wearing 0-3 month stuff for the most part.

Mine were 4 lbs 4 oz and 4 lbs 2 oz. They ended up being in preemie clothes for about 2 months and then in the Newborn stuff for two months after that. I was actually going through the kids clothes today and we have HUGE box of just preemie and newborn clothes. Most of it is sleepers. I thought I would love the gowns, but actually like the sleepers better since they had the feet in them.

I had several sleepers for each and two outfits. You will probably need more sleepers for you ds. I wouldn't get many, because you won't need them for very long. There is a huge difference in the newborn and preemie sizes. FYI the best diapers I found for preemies are Pampers Swaddlers for preemies.

Mine were born 4lb14 and 4lb12oz and we came home in preemie clothes but they did not stay in them for very long. I would suggest a couple sleepers so u are not doing wash all the time but not a ton because they can outgrow things so quickly and some 0-3 will probably be a little big but work out fine. Again as pp suggested I would keep tags on some so that u can return them if they are not required.

My babes were around 4 lbs when born, and wore preemie clothes for around 6 weeks. We didn't actually buy any as family and friends brought them to us as gifts while the babies were in the NICU. The sleeper-type outfits without the feet lasted the longest as both babies seemed to be too long for them a few weeks before they were too chubby for them. Most of ours were the Little Me brand. (I can't remember if you're having girls, but avoid the sleepers with the frilly white collars. Almost all of Addison's had a frilly white collar and it seemed to collect formula and be wet all the time.)
