I had a friend call and ask if I would be needing preemie size baby clothes. Is it a good idea to have a few outfits in this tiny size - just in case? I don't want to feel like I'm jinxing myself - I know the reality is that many twins are very small.

Do/did you have any on hand?

im going to get like one outfit maybe to and go from there, because i feel like that will be jinxing as well, but truth is most of the time twins are anywhere from 4 to 6lbs so im going to just to be on the safe side, same with buying a small pack of preemie diapers, if i dont use them at least it was a small pack and not alot of money. im gonna keep reciepts for the preemie clothes and if they are 6lbers then i will just have my DW or family take them back and get something different.

My first child weighed 6 lbs at birth and we had him in preemie diapers for the first couple weeks. He was swimming in the 0-3 month clothes too for a while, so it's probably not a bad idea to have a few preemie outfits. I'm still undecided as to what we're going to do with the twins since they're growing really well but I'm in the hospital for preterm labor so they're a good chance that they will come early.

My boys were 6.7 & 6.8 lbs, born at 37 weeks. We didn't buy any preemie outfits ourselves, but 2 of our friends had bought us some. We had 4-6 sleepers & 2 outfits. Those sleepers were the only ones that fit when they first came home. I was so glad we had them. My boys wore them for the first month. We didn't need anymore outfits as we really didn't go anywhere the first month, but we sure could have used a few more sleepers. We were always washing them.

I never bought any preemie outfits. I bought newborn sleepers for 5 to 7lbs which I could get away with rolling the arms a bit for my DD. She was 5.3lbs at birth but was 4.9lbs when we left the hospital. DS was 7.10lbs at birth and didn't need the rolling.

I've just bought some "up to 7 lbs" clothing from Gap and a couple peole gave me newborn stuff from Carters...which I think is also the "up to 7lb" size.

I haven't bought any preemie stuff. Hoping we will not need the up to 5 lb stuff.

I had everyone telling me how small my twins were gonna be :p HA fooled you all.
I have been given some tiny clothes, I guess it doesn't hurt to have one or two. And my twins were at the 6lb mark 2 weeks ago. You prob wont jinx yourself. I don't think I could have if I tried!!!!

I didn't. I figured if we needed them, someone could run out and get them last minute. I bought a bunch of Carter's newborn sized stuff, which is good for 5-8 pounds. My girls were just over 6 each at birth and these were a little big at first, but they grew into them pretty quickly.

If a friend is offering, I would get a few onesies and sleepers. That being said, I didn't get any until I was sure I needed them. I had a couple of days notice before my induction and then my girls were in the hospital for 7 and 9 days so I was able to get a few lots on Ebay and they were at my house by the time Ainsley & Sierra came home. Most of them looked pretty new and I only spent $40 for enough clothes that I washed about every 5 days.

Since you are having boy/girl twins, you are a little less likely to deliver early than someone with identicals so don't worry too much about jinxing yourself. :)

I am new to all this and just curious why identical would more likely to deliver early?

Re preemie cloths: my son arrived at 35 weeks and weighing 6lb 6oz (No NICU) and was swimming in 0-3 month for what seemed like forever… It messed with me BIG time!!! so I now go out of my way for any friend/neighbor who has a preemie (or just a small baby) to run out and buy them some as soon as I here they arrived, because I am sooo with you on the jinxes… but I’m worse… I didn’t buy my son baby furniture until he was well over 3 months… I thought if I did I would loose him (call it post partum… who knows)… I’m not kidding we used the boxes from his stroller and basinet (that grandparents/great grandparents ran out and got while I was in the hospital) as his changing station…

I did b/c of my SIL's recommendation. She and my brother had a full-term 6lb. 11oz. girl who wore preemie size for one month. My aunt bought us a couple of outfits for each baby in preemie and I just picked up some sleepers and outfits from M2M sales. Not too many. I figured if they don't get used, I'm not out much $$. People have suggested buying some and leaving tags on to return if the size is too small.

We will be getting some especially since our daughter was full term and left the hospital at 6lbs 5 ounces. She stayed in those preemie clothes for about a month or so.
Gowns were like tents on her, rolling and rolling the sleeves. I'm kind of hoping to have one boy and one girl, then all the girl clothes we have can be useful!

I agree.. someone can always run to the store to pick some up IF you need them. The last thing you want to do is have to return the clothes right after their birth. I hated shopping excursions! LOL I did not have any.

I got a few outfits, just in case, but not a lot. (I think one or two for each.) Mostly I got newborn and 0-3.
I agree with PP, if you really need some you can send someone out to get a few things!

Both my singletons were 7'4 and 7'6 and needed preemie for the first couple weeks.

I did not buy any personally, but I got several sets at my shower. It was a very strong possibility that mine were going to come early, and they did.

I'm going to tell her that I would like to have a couple of preemie outfits. If she is willing to buy them for me.... I might as well let her :) Sounds like even full term babies can fit into these outfits at first.

My daughter was 5-2 and my son 6-6 at 37 weeks. 3 weeks before they had told me she was already 5-11 and he was well over 7. They were way off.

After they were born my daughter wore preemie for 6 weeks, my son 4 weeks and now at less than 4 months they are in 3-6 and my son is close to 6-9. The fact is they wore preemie clothes longer than any other size yet. I was lucky to have a friend who went out and got them each enough preemie clothes for 7 days. Wal-mart has great prices and a ton of selection.

The hospital sent us home with all the preemie diapers we needed!

Mine were born at 37 weeks and were 6 lbs each, but they were still small compared to most newborn-sized clothes. We didn't bother with preemie clothes and just let them swim in their sleepers for a few weeks. However, one nice friend did buy a pair of preemie-sized outfits that we enjoyed dressing them up in on Christmas. :) (They were 5 weeks old then.) They outgrew those outfits at about 8 weeks.

My girls were 38 weekers and spent the first 6 weeks in preemie clothes. My smallest was 5 pounds 5 ounces when we left the hospital. The 0-7 pound clothes(yes, 0-7 pounds is what the label said, lol) I had bought were too big and the girls were swimming in them. DH and I went to the store and bought a few sets of preemie outfits and that is what they lived in for around 6 weeks. I wish I had them on hand before the girls were born! You can always leave the labels on and return them if you don't need them.
