Anyone have this during their pregnancy and are still dealing with it after their babies were born? OR did you develope it after the babies came? If so, how long did it take for your BP to return to normal? How long were you on medication?

My BP was in the 110s/70s before this last pregnancy. With each of my singletons, my BP always inched up but never went high. It also always returned to normal. With the girls, I developed PreE and am still dealing with BP issues. Last night my BP was 168/111. I just want to know when life is going to return to normal, if ever.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi,

I developed preeclampsia at the end of my pregnancy (blood pressure 165/115 for three days straight). This led to a c-section at 34 weeks and I was placed on blood pressure medicine after delivery that I continued to take for about a month. The medicine worked great for me and my blood pressure came down within about four weeks. I can see from your signature that you're already past that point, but thought I'd share my story just in case it helps. Are you on any medication? If not, it might be worth exploring just so you don't have to worry about the high blood pressure.

    Good luck!

    Hi-

Are you taking meds? Your BP is obviously still pretty high. If your OB doesnt know about it, I would call. I had pre-eclampsia that started at about 30 weeks. I cant remember how high it actually got but it was at least 170/115 so I had an emergency c-section at 32 weeks. I was started on Nifediac (I think that is it) daily. I was kept at the hospital for 5 days to get it under control and then sent home on the meds for a month or so. Mine was still borderline at my 6 week check up and I was told to take the meds for another 2 weeks and then recheck and it was back to normal. I was also told by my OB that once I lost some more weight from the pregnancy and started getting some sleep that it might go lower.

are you taknig your BP at home or is a doctor aware of that number? i truly don't mean to be an alarmist, but you have GOT to tell a doctor it is stil that high. any time that bottom number is more than 100 the docs where i work want to see that patietn same day. I would hope by now yours would be down, especially considering how good it was beforeyour pregnancy. i'd get into the doctor asap.

I had Preeclampsia during pregnancy, I took the meds for a few weeks PP and it did eventually regulate - maybe a month after the twins were born. I'd definitely consult a doc with your BP that high.

Thanks all. I was on procardia. But my BP had been staying in the 130s/80s, so I stopped taking it. Yesterday was just an unbelievable stressful day. I was literally shaking by the end of it. Thus I guess why it went so high again. So, I have started taking my meds again and will be calling my doc on Monday to see what he says. I may just need to be on the meds longer, I guess.

Yikes -- don't just stop taking the meds -- it can be really dangerous for your blood pressure!

I didn't have pre-E, but I developed high blood pressure and swelling in the hospital, post C-section. I was prescribed a diuretic, and 400mg of Labetalol daily (one of the few that are okay with breastfeeding).

It took a couple months for my blood pressure to normalize on that amount of meds, and the doctor just had me wean back to 200mg a day -- I did it slowly, first doing 300mg and checking pressure twice a day, until it stayed reliably in the 130/80 range.

Now, I'm still doing well on the 200mg a day, but the doctor says I still need the meds for awhile, as I'm not seeing any low blood pressure readings at all. I will continue to monitor it, and then try to wean off it altogether in the next few months.

I still have some 40 pounds to drop from pregnancy, so I'm sure it will help as my weight comes off (if it ever does, LOL).

Definitely see the doctor -- I suspect you need the meds for awhile, which is okay -- just put a plan in place to manage it, and never stop taking them cold turkey!

I ended up developing Pre-E after the boys were born and was on meds till I went in for my 6 week PP visit. The dr said to cut them in half and take them at half dosage for a week, if my BP looked good at the half dosage, then I can stop taking all together. It did, and I did. Hope you get everything leveled off!

I too developed pre-e after delivery of my girls and needed to be on bp meds for a while after delivery. Like you, my bp was normally 110/70's and then jumped up into the 160/90's. I was on Nifedipine until the girls were around 2 months old (everything's pretty hazy!).

One thing that I did was to buy an electric bp cuff and monitor my bp at home, I'd check it before and after meds and kept a log. That way when I went back to the doc (had c-section complications...went back a lot!) I could show them what was going on and was able to slowly wean my way off the meds. It wasn't until my BP was pretty much back to prepreg level before meds that they let me go off though...

    Good luck!

I developed PIH at 27 weeks and delivered via c-section at 34 weeks 6 days because of it. When they discharged me from the hospital I was at 179-110 so my doctor put me on procardia (nifedipine) for about 4 weeks. Then my BP when down to 130/85 so she took me off and said lets watch it. As of last night it was 105/75. But definitely call your doctor.
