Just curious, my twins are four weeks old as of yesterday. I gained about 55 pounds during my pregnancy. In the first 3 weeks I lost 30 pounds, but now it seems like my weight loss has stopped (actually I think I might be gaining weight back!). Anyway I am breastfeeding and supplementing with formula a little.

What were your experiences with weight loss after your pregnancy?

How long did it take you to get to your pre pregnancy weight?

How many extra calories can you eat while breastfeeding? My ped told me 1200 with the twins, but like I said, I think I am putting some of my pregnancy pounds back on :-(

I know I am being impatient, but I have nothing to wear.

Keep in mind it took 9 months to put on the 55 pounds...and to have lost over half of it in just 4 weeks is great....keep plugging along....and it will come off too.

I am almost back to my pre-preg weight and they are almost a year. So give yourself some time. I lost a lot quickly and I pumped for 3 months. But what I had a hard time with was eating quality foods because I was exhausted and needed quick foods so I ate junk and really saw a plateau in my weight loss. I also had to train myself not to shove in food in excess because that is what I had been doing the past 9 months. That hardest was to modify my portions, but it is what is working.

I think you can take in 1000 more calories/day for BFing.

My weight loss stopped around 4 months but the funny thing was that during that month I dropped from a size 10 down to a size 4. I think that even though I stopped losing weight my hips kind of went back to normal. I also bf and I lost about 80 of the 90lbs I gained.

i had lost it all and then some right around 3 months, but i wasn't bf (you hold onto some weight while bf) or really taking v ery good care of myself (ie, not sleeping/eating/exercising), which I do NOT recommend. It will all go away in due time - 9 months up, 9 months down . . .

I lost that big chunk at the beginning, and the rest just stayed. At about 6 months (still bfing) I got really serious about working out and then it came off. I was not really ready to do serious workouts before then--I needed sleep more!

It took 6 months after my first singleton. I think more like 2 years after my second child.

I don't have an answer to your question -- just commiserating with you..... My babies are 3w3d old, and it sounds like we're in the same boat. I lost 45 lb. within the first week of delivery, but now have about 35-40 left to go  I am exclusively BF, and my weight has hardly changed at all in the past 2 weeks! It is frustrating! It's hard to believe the claims that BF twins burns 1,000 calories/day... Hopefully we just need a little patience and it will come off..... I'm also trying to get back into exercise as well.....

Thanks for the encouragement. One thing I really have to work on is eating quality foods and not eating soooo much. I am still in pregnancy mode I think, and I really need to get back to eating like I did before I was pregnant. As soon as my doc gives me the go ahead ( I had a c-section) I will start excercising too.

I'm a weight loss success story... I was about 15 pounds overweight before I got pregnant, then gained 45. I lost 20ish when they were born, and another 10 came off within the first week or so. Then, I didn't seem to lose any weight for over a month and all of a sudden, I was losing two pounds a week. By three months after my girls were born, I was at my pre-pregnancy weight and now, six months later, I'm 15 pounds below where I started out. I exclusively breastfed and ate really healthy (absolutely no fast food, no packaged food, etc.) but never limited my portions or watched what I ate. As long as it was a "whole" food, I ate it. So it can happen! Just give it time...

amazingly 1 week after I had the girls I was 8 pounds lighter than when I got pregnant, but the thing is I am pretty sure I have put that back on plus some. I guess being pregnant with twins helped me lose weight. May have been all the water I drank when I was pregnant... now I hardly ever drink water. Good luck and you will the lose the weight.

    Hi,

I lost all of my pregnancy weight by 6 weeks. BUT, during that time I would lose, plateau, gain a bit, lose...I was all over the place. Now, 2 weeks later I am 5 pounds below my pregnancy weight (still have 15 lbs to my goal). I did not eat very much in the beginning. I was so tired that I had no appetite and I had no time. Lot's of dry frozen waffles. I personally do not believe that we need an ungodly amount of calories to nurse. I don't think calories have anything to do with it. I think we need water and good nutrition. I have cut dairy due to a sensitivity in my daughter and that has been amazing for my weightloss. It's also forced me to eat almost vegan like (I do eat meat) and most of that food is whole grains, fruit, veggies etc. I don't limit myself on good wholesome food but I don't force myself to meet some calorie requirement because I don't believe in it.

I agree that it takes a long time to put the weight on and a long time to take it off. I panic whenever I stop losing for a few days but it seems to catch back up.

Oh, I'm EBF and in the beginning I pumped a lot too so that helped. I know as soon as I start suplementing or weaning the weightloss will slow down. Then, I'll add exercize.

I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight about 9 months after the girls were born. (I gained 70 lbs.) For the first 6 weeks, I really did look like I was still pregnant -- and not just a little bit pregnant. Then the preggo belly went down pretty quickly (except for the abdominal separation, which will be with me forever unless I have a tummy tuck) and the rest of the weight came off gradually.

I only BF for 5 weeks, so I don't know how that affected things. I didn't really do strenuous exercise (and still rarely do), but I walked with the stroller a lot.

I bought some new clothes when the girls were about 2 months old because everyone said "Buy yourself some things that fit -- it will make you feel better." Now I wish I hadn't, because I had to get rid of a few pairs of pants that were ridiculously too big within a few months. So I suggest getting some larger pants at Goodwill or something! Once the girls were about a year old, I sorted through my pre-preggo pants and got rid of everything that still didn't fit (because of the change in my belly), and bought some new ones. I've gone up about one pants size even though my weight is the same as pre-pregnancy.

I lost all my weight plus 15 extra lbs by the time my girls were 4 months. I eat everything in sight while breastfeeding. i dont' keep track of calories or excercise which is a completly new thing for me!

I'm sure when I wean I will be in big trouble!

I am 19 months PP, and still not down to my pre-preg weight. I got within 2 pounds, now I am within 5 (gained a few back).

Breastfeeding did not help me to lose weight at all. I didn't really start losing until I weaned. I'm not sure how many extra calories a day, maybe 300/child?

I got back to my pp weight about a month ago but had been wearing my pp clothes since a few days after delivery. I weighed more but it was different proportions. I swear my boobs weigh 5 pounds a piece sometimes! HA BFing will pay off in the weight loss department eventually. Just give it some time to work! You're doing great and congrats on your babies!

i am 11 wks pp and have 4 lbs to go of the 37 i gained. i lost the first 30 the first week after giving birth, these last 7 are coming off much more slowly. i breastfeed and also workout almost every day (combo. of yoga, pilates and walking). it took until 9 wks pp to fit into my pre-pg clothes. i eat healthy too. i think you need to give yourself time, but i am also of the belief that you have to exercise to lose weight healthily and keep it off (easier said than done with twins, i know! i often do the elliptical machine with my colicky baby strapped in a bjorn! she loves it!)

What a great idea about the elliptical. I have an elliptical and a baby Bjorn. I will have to use them together!

I was 109 when I got pregnant, and I think I'm 107, but I'm only 5'1" and just petite. I gained 42 lbs, and lost most of it within the first 6 weeks. Beleive me, my tummy looks horrible, but I can wear all my old clothes just fine. I think so much of it is genetic, but I am still also pumping, so that helps, and never sit, as I'm sure most of us don't.

My OB said give yourself 9 months before you fret.

I never counted calories when I was BF, but I ate SO much! Do NOT deprive yourself of food, just make mostly healthy choices. I remember eating a big steak, huge baked potato, veggies, bread and dessert one night when they were about 6 weeks old...more than my DH or FIL could have eaten, and I wasn't even full! They were in shock!

I am in the minority. I gained 37 and it was all gone plus an extra 5 one week after delivery. I pumped every 2 hours for that first week, but couldn't make enough milk for one, let alone two so I had to give it up. I've now put back on that extra 5, so I'm at my pre-preggo weight of 130 (I'm 5'7"). My clothes fit, just not the way they used to. Things seemed to have shifted. Last week I bought a skirt in a size bigger then I'm used to, so that has motivated me to get back to the gym.

I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight but my clothes are A LOT tighter. I think I lost some muscle tone and since fat is lighter, I weigh the same but look bigger. I ran a marathon 2 weeks before I got preggo with my twins, so I was in pretty darn good shape. I miss running so much. I only get out about once a week and haven't had time to build beyond 30 minute runs.

So I've been a little bit obscene at work in my now-too-tight work clothes, but I refuse to buy new clothes in a bigger size. The babies will be big enough to go in the jogging stroller after Christmas, so my plan is to start running a lot more often then.

I lost 35 lbs the first 10 days, but the last 20 took until just last week to come off. And now with the amount of halloween candy I've eaten in the last 24 hours I probably gained a little bit back!

I haven't been counting calories or anything even though I am pumping 5 times a day. I just eat when I feel hungry and try (TRY) to eat healthy. Does Chipotle count as healthy? :)

I was overweight when I got pregnant. We had been through a lot of infertility therapies and it was not good for my weight issues. I've battled my weight my whole life. Never was in the "obese" category, but never "thin" either.

Now, almost 11 months after my girls' birth, I am back to where I was when I got pregnant, but that ain't thin! In fact, if I didn't get pregnant when I did, I was going to take a year off TTC to lose a lot of the weight. But, I got pregnant instead, so the trade off was worth it!

ANyway, here I am back at square (or should I say "ROUND" ;-)) one.... I'll tell ya', it's so tough now to get it off. But I haven't really been trying. Now that the cold weather is here, I will. I hate exercising in the summer.

I was thin before the pregnancy and gained 60 lbs. I was back in my pre-pregnacy jeans by 6 weeks. I do think that was really fast and not quite sure how I managed it lol! I was bfing and supplementing with formula for the first 4 months. I know I get alot of comments and stotty looks from other mothers b/c I dont look like I have had twins.

You may not want to hear this, but I lost all of my pregnancy weight (38 lbs) immediately, without effort. I was back to normal (but with lots of stretch marks and extra tummy skin by the time my babies had their 3-week appoinment (I got the doc to weigh me too). My problem is that I never stopped losing. Every week I lose another pound - now I'm about 30 lbs BELOW my pre-pregnancy weight. I look ridiculous. I blood test last week revealed hyperthyroidism (which I never even thought of...duh) so I have an appointment with the specialist next week to see about getting back to normal.

It took me 6 months to get back to my pre-preg. weight. I gained 53 pounds during my pregnancy and lost about 30 lbs in the first 3 months then hit a plateau for a few weeks. I went on weight watchers online and lost the rest of the weight in the following 3 months. I did have to buy bigger clothes for those 3 months, because my pre-preg. clothes just didn't fit right or comfortably. In the last year, I've somehow lost 12 more pounds. I attribute it to running after 2 toddlers!!

I gained about 70 pounds  (but I had fun doing it! B) ). It took me about a year to get back to my pre-preg weight.
