I read through the prematurity thread and noticed a few moms had Pre-E with one pregnancy and not another. I was talking to one doctor who said I will "definitely" have eclampsia issues because I had it with my first but my twins were born with no Pre-E at 39 weeks 4 days. Just Curious!

I don't have any experience...however, I have a friend who had to be delivered at 27 weeks with her first DD due to severe Pre-e. She's pregnant now and dr. said he was hoping to at least get her to 30 weeks b/c since she got it SO early the first time, odds of having it again were pretty high. Well, she's now 31 weeks and on modified bedrest b/c she is showing some signs (severe swelling mainly) or pre-e, but not in her blood/urine and BP's are still "ok." But, he doesn't suspect it will be long before she will have to deliver. Hoping to get in at leasta few more weeks.

I had severe Pre-e with my twins and thats why they were born at 35 weeks. My Dr said at my 1st appointment he was expecting me to have pre-e again because of my past history and my family history. My BP was the best its ever been while pregnant and its still doing good. I was so glad the Dr was wrong!

I was told by my doctor that it happens mostly in first pregnancies - it's unusual with the second unless you have a change in partner or multiple birth etc..

I developed HELLP while in labor with the twins. It basically Pre E but with lots more issues that are quite serious if not dealt with immediately. I also developed cholestasis with the twins. Both problems have a 30-50% chance of happening in subsequent pregnancies so I was watched closely with my singleton through frequent monitoring and blood tests. Nothing turned up from either of them though and I went to nearly 42 weeks. I definitely think those previous problems were due mainly to the stress on my body of carrying the twins.

This is interesting b/c our OB told us that if we were to have another we don't have to worry about pre-e or HELLP. He said when you have it once the odds of having it again with another pregnancy is only 2 %. It's like the chicken pox once you have it you probably won't get it again.

I had it at the end with the twins. That was my only other pregnancy besides this one. Nothing yet for this one so we'll see what the end brings. I hadn't thought about asking my doc about it.
