I don't post here very often, but read all the time and this website has been a huge blessing during my pregnancy. I am currently 28w3d pregnant with twin boys. One of our boys is severely growth restricted due to poor diastolic flow in his umbilical artery. Two weeks ago he had no diastolic flow at all called 'absent end diastolic flow.' We were doing dopplers and NSTs twice per week trying to stay pregnant as long as possible. One week ago we saw some diastolic flow for the first time in weeks and we were beginning to really believe we might make it to 32 or 34 weeks. Unfortunately, when we went in for dopplers today, the baby was in reverse end diastolic flow, where blood is flowing in the wrong direction in between heartbeats. This is very serious and the peri has admitted me to the hospital for fluids. He is hoping this may improve the dopplers. If so, we'll go home with more dopplers on Thursday. If not, we'll begin steroids and around-the-clock monitoring. Hopefully, we could hold off on delivery for at least 48 hours to get the full benefit of the steroids. Currently, our IUGR baby weighs 1 lb. 10 oz. and our other baby weighs 2 lbs. 13 ozs.

Please keep us in your prayers and I will keep everyone informed. Also, we have a blog that is updated often. It's www.twoby.blogspot.com

    Thanks,

    Randi

I just wanted to let you know that I just said a prayer for you and your precious boys. I hope you can keep cooking those babies for many many more weeks. If not, I wanted to share my story with you. My girls were born last February at 27 weeks (so you are already further along than I was) weighing 2lbs 1oz and 2lbs 2oz. We had an emotional and stressful NICU stay for 9 weeks, but my girls are doing wonderfully. They are developmentally somewhere between their actual age (14 months) and adjusted age (11 months) and are perfect in every way. The only lingering effects are they get colds a little more often than my oldest full term child. Hang in there!!

I definitely pray for you! Demand steriods asap. I too have a IUGR baby(she had a 2 vessel cord). We were carefully watched and measured twice a week. She was born at 34 weeks weighting 2lbs 13 oz and is now a pretty healthy 18 month old(has a heart murmur). Also ask for u/s measurements of cord flow these are more precise. Lots of Ensure helps too. That way what blood does get to the baby is nutrient rich.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and words of encouragement. So sorry it's taken me this long to post. After 4-5 hours of IV fluids, the peri came in and did dopplers on our IUGR baby. Miraculously the fluids and prayers worked and the reverse-end diastolic flow was no longer there. He looked at several different places in the cord and although there were several with no diastolic flow, we were able to see some diastolic flow in some places. Additionally, the baby was very active and we could see him doing some practice breathing. So, he let me go home and we finally made it home at 1 AM. We will go in tomorrow for more dopplers and probably 3 times/week from here on out. I was advised to be drinking at least a gallon of water or gatorade per day. We will go for steroids but not until he feels delivery is more imminent. Neither my peri nor my OB believes you should do the steroids until you know you are going to deliver within the next 4 or 5 days.

Thanks again. I'll keep everyone posted.
