today my 7yo DD came home from playing with friends all afternoon, and at dinner I noticed she had a rash with red spots. it was only on her face, arms and legs from the knee down. I haven't seen chicken pox since my brothers had them like 15+years ago. I don't remember what they look like. I just hope that's not what this is. my boys aren't old enough to be vaccinated, and I worry that they'd certainly end up with chicken pox if that's what she has. I'm praying it's just a harmless rash, but I don't even know how to tell. I guess if it gets worse in the next day or so I'll know huh? I'm hoping it'll just be gone by morning. hope with me please. I'd about die if I had 3 or more kids with chicken pox!

and for the record yes she did get vaccinated when she was 1, but as they always tell you a vaccine doesn't garantee they won't get it. anyway, so I'm worried.

please don't let it be chicken pox!!

    thanks,
    Michelle

I hope it's not. My girls have had heat related summer rashes this year, so maybe it's something like that.

Does she feel sick at all? I had chickenpox when I was 18 and I remember feeling pretty sick (had a fever). Also, if they're chickenpox the bumps will start to burst and ooze clear liquid and then crust over. From what I remember this started happening pretty quickly.
Good luck, hope it's just a heatrash.

thank you all for your comments and prayers. I don't think it's chicken pox any more seeing as how the spots have faded a little bit. they wouldn't get better overnight if it was chicken pox, it would get worse right?

I'm thinking and hoping that it's just a heat rash or something like that but I don't actually know what heatrash looks like.

she had a slight fever yesterday, and said the spots itch. but lots of rashes could do that couldn't they?

I'm actually afraid to let her near the twins until I'm certain it's not chicken pox. I don't think it is now, but I was so worried yesterday that I'm still being cautious today.

I think I'll just keep her home and away from the twins in case it does turn out to be something contageous.

anyone have a link to pics of heat rash?

    thanks!

    Hi Michelle,

I really don't think it sounds like chicken pox. I have always heard that chicken pox start usually show up on the "trunk" of the body first. Not all the time, but most times. If it was chicken pox, she definitely wouldn't have gotten better overnight. Most rashes do itch. It does sound like a heat rash or a reaction from something new. Did she use new sunscreen or anything like that when she was at her friends? If you still are worried, I would definitely call the Dr. and explain to them what the rash looks like and let them decide whether to see her or not. You can never be too safe. I hope this resolves soon. :)

Could she maybe have gotten into poison ivy, poison oak, or something like that? Those rashes itch, and can ooze... and you can have fever with them.

My guess is also something she touched outside (especially since it's her arm and legs - knees down - and she probably touched her face with her hands). Chicken pox would be all over I guess.

It doesn't sound like chicken pox to me either, it gets worse really fast, and definately wouldn't get better the first day or two. My brother and I were one of the weird cases of getting chicken pox twice when we were young--if you have a very mild case the first time you can get it twice, but the second time is a b****, I even had it on my eyelids!
I hope she is okay and that the little ones don't get it if it is actually contagious.

It doesn't sound like C Pox, but if it is your little ones have already been exposed. If memory serves, there is a 2 week incubation period before the bumps show...this incubation period is when its most contagious.

Honestly based on your description of the rash and its location, it sound more like poison ivy or something environmental like that. Lower legs, arms and face are all prime locations for poison ivy.

Has she been in the great outdoors in the past few days??? Particularly near the edge of a field or near a river/wetland?

ETA for me poison ivy shows up as an area of low raised bumps the feel sort of like braille. Sometimes the surrounding area is red/swollen. After a few days, the top of the bumps may fill with a yellowy oil. (Don't pusposely pop the bumps!) If its not itched, it will run its course in about a week to ten days. It itches like crazy though...get the girl some ointment! If it spreads, particularly near her eyes/mouth see a doctor.

I'm glad it doesn't sound like Chicken pox. :hug99: No one ever remembers me getting it as a kid, but my case must have been extremely mild because I am immune. (I got tested.)
