Does it come only in the few weeks after birth or... can it come later? I felt fine and happy up until a couple of weeks ago.. Is it PPD or really depression/anxiety? Babies are 6 months old.. Thanks
I don't have all the answers, but I have my own experience. I was too caught up in being a mom and figuring things out for the babies for the first few months to even consider my own state of affairs. Once I went back to work and I started reflecting on things, I was feeling a ton of anxiety and was really stressed (putting a lot of pressure on myself, not giving myself any credit, etc). So I went and saw my favorite Ob. He was great and told me that I am circling the drain. :FIFblush: and that I was going down if I didn't do something to help me. I was 16w PP at that point. So I started on Zoloft two weeks ago. I do honestly feel better. I am handling things better and not feeling all the anxiety and panic. I am actually enjoying the babies more because I'm not obsessing about every little thing. The doc said usually once you start feeling better he recommends staying on the meds for 3-4 months and then weaning off slowly. HTH and hope that you feel better. It's hard being super mom to super twins. :winking0009:
It can happen up to TWO years after birth. If you are EVEN QUESTIONING IT.. chances are GOOD that you have it. Please be seen. Take care of YOU first!! Then the rest falls into place!!
Yep, it can come on much later than you would think. Mine started coming on when my twins were 4 months old. I let it go too long, and I got really really low. I was starting to scare myself, so I went to the doc and got on Zoloft, and I cannot believe how much better I feel and how much better I am able to handle my 4 children! Please see your doctor, it is so worth it to get yourself feeling better.
Please talk to someone, PPD is so very real and it can really take over. I started taking welbutrin after Molly was born and the difference is night and day.
Don't doubt yourself. I was on medication with my first two and with the twins I kept thinking that I would feel better. I waited 9 months to go to the doctor and by the time I did I was very low and felt like I couldn't take care of myself or the kids anymore. The doctor gave me zoloft and I am feeling so much better. Don't put yourself through the agony any longer than necessary.
My happiest friend in the world experienced PPD when her son turned 9 months old. She didn't consider it to be PPD because it was 9 months later. The truth is it can come on anytime within the first two years and still be considered PPD. Please talk to your doc. It's an easy fix! Antidepressants are helpful and so are things like exercise, alone time, yoga, talking things out etc. Please feel free to PM me if you want. Mine set in at 6 weeks and is far better now...even gone maybe...
Mine did not seem to come to the surface until they were around 4-5 months old. I think this is because I was soooo busy and crazy with them the first couple of months I did not have time to sit back and think or reflect on how I was feeling. Once I started having a moment to catch my breath I realized that I was full of anxiety. Medicine really did help me. Also, I noticed that around this time my babies started to sleep better but I was not sleeping at all - this was a red flag for me. Amy
