So, DD seems to be ready to potty train. She says 'uh oh' before she goes, and squats. So we are starting to put her on the potty chair. DS doesnt seem ready though, he hates the potty chair. Last night, they were naked after a bath and playing, i sat DD down and nothing happened but i think she knows what it is for. She loves to sit on the chair. DS pooed on the floor (thank goodness we have wood floors throughout) and i thought, if i put it in the chair, and show them maybe they will connect the process. He flipped out, he yelled at me and looked upset. So, can anyone help me with some input? How often should i put DD on her chair....and how do you potty train twins....

    TIA

How old are they? There are soooooo many different ideas/methods on potty training; I got overwhelmed when I started reading about it. So I just decided to do it our own way & let dd lead the way.......taking a few tips here & there of what we liked & worked for us. They had a show on "The Doctors" the other day about potty training; maybe you could find it on their website?

For us, when dd started to show signs of being interested (not necessarily the same as readiness) we got the little potty chair & put it in the bathroom. They both thought it was a fun new toy to sit on......but it got them used to it. She went back & forth between being interested & I just never pressured her; but when she did want to sit on it, we made a big fuss like Macy's Parade. :)

Even when I knew she was really ready, it never really 'took off' for us until I got rid of the diapers. I took her to the store by herself & let her pick out her own "big girl panties".... that was fun. :)

Having pullups seemed to just bring us a step backwards, but she still uses them for naps/bedtime. Since we had gone through the whole "diapers are for babies" thing, but she was still waking up wet, she flat out refused diapers at bedtime & would scream, "I'm a big girl!!" So, we got the pullups for bedtime & call them the "sleepy diapers".

We do treats for going potty - I have a jar of M&M's. One treat for pee, 2 for poop. :) My cousin didn't want to use treats when she pt'd her dd, and she got a special Princess necklace that was only worn on the potty. I think whatever motivates your kid works!

That's just what we did.....luckily for me, dd and ds weren't ready at the same time. :) Going out in public, now that's a whole other story! :D :D

I start by sitting them on the potty before bath time and then when they finally produce we celebrate. Then after they can produce and show interest I begin actual potty training. I would not force a child to sit if they do not want to...that will not help. Make the offer "would you like to sit?" and let them decide. Each child does it at their own pace. With my twins one potty trained in July and the other still has never produced pee in the potty yet. So we wait until he shows interest.
