Hey, I thought maybe you guys might have some suggestions. I have a 2.5 year old who I believe is ready to potty train. He poos in his diaper and then asks to be changed- takes his diaper off often, and shows a general interest in potty training. I have tried several times to get him to go on the potty- he used to be interested and now he refuses to even try. Does anyone have any suggestions, or things that have worked for them?

I'm going to move this to the Potty Training forum.

I have no suggestions as I only have 1 that has potty trained and I let her initiate and take the lead. Ryan has no interest and I'm not going to push him into it.

We are pretty much at that stage too. I just attempted to do underwear-only, no diapers, but I don't think they were ready. They were not all that upset about wetting their pants, and were just having fun picking out clean pants and underwear when they were wet. So, I decided to wait a bit. I would say give it a try, but if it's not working, then back off.

If he's refusing, he's not ready. Asking to be changed after a BM is not the same thing as recognizing, in advance, that he needs to make a BM. In my experience in training 2 boys, 2y5m is quite young to train. And the reality is that they train themselves. When he's ready, it will be a breeze. If you try to "train" him before he's ready and willing, it will be the biggest nightmare you can imagine. In your case, I would back off.

I am in the same position too. Except, Peyton tells me ahead of time she has to go poopies, and then refuses to go in the toilet. Ugh, so frustrating!

Thanks girls- I will just put it on the back burner until he shows more signs he is ready :)
