Okay i have a 2 1/2 year old & i think i need to start potty training but don't know where to start? He doesn't talk the greatest but the past few days will come up to me and go pee-you when he goes poop and wants his diaper changed and if it doesnt' get changed right then he trys to put his hand down the back of his diaper and play with it! gross!!
So do i start or wait till he can talk and Communicate better?

I wouldn't miss the opportunity if I were you. My boys aren't communicating much, but we are still introducing the potty. I put them on it before they go in the bath tub. Sometimes I bring it out so they can sit on it. I would take him to the potty after you clean him up. I would also ask him periodically if he needs to go and maybe he will tell you ahead of time. It is helpful if he goes around the same time every day. Then you can ask him a little before hand or just sit him on the potty and wait.

Wanting to be changed AFTER the fact is not the same as recognizing the need to go. Boys tend to train later - the average age is close to 3 years. I'm not saying don't try, but also realize that it might be a bit too early. Be prepared to back off if he doesn't catch on fairly quickly.

Sounds like he can get his point across well enough. I am a cold turkey and rewards potty trainer so I would get a good potty seat with a seat that comes off to put on the big toilet when their ready, get them to choose under wear with a character they like so you can say...you don't want to get elmo wet right? so let me know if you ave to go pee. Put the potty seat right beside where ever he is playing at all times. Put it in front of the TV and let him watch 'Once upon a potty' over and over again. Ask often if he has to go. If he doesn't say that's okay let me know if you feel like you have to go. If he does , reward him with a special toy or sticker, tattoo etc. If he has an accident say 'no big deal', let's change our clothes and clean up and this time we'll try to keep elmo dry. It took us only 5 days to potty train our daughter this way (although I have heard boys are harder - I guess I'll find out). She still had accidents every now and then for the longest time (only natural) and kept diapers at night but for the most part she was trained.

Be patient. Expect accidents and they won't bother you so much when they happen. Our couch and bed and kitchen chairs have all been peed on. The floor at the bank, Zellers and a restaurant chair but that is life.

Also, another thing, I agree with the previous post. If he doesn't seem to be getting any successes after a few days don't worry or pressure him, let it go and wait for the next opportunity. Everyone gets traing\ed eventually. No big deal.
