I cannot avoid it any longer: It's time to potty train! My girls have been showing signs of being ready for awhile, but I was just not ready. In the last two days they have peed on the potty 8 times. I finally got a second potty and ordered Elmo undies. However, I'm not sure what to do for night time because I know they are not even close to being ready to be dry all night (they sleep 13 hours). I was going to use pull-ups at night since I wanted to completely say goodbye to diapers when their undies arrive and never look back, but I know pull-ups aren't quite as absorbent as regular diapers and since they sleep so long I don't want them to get soaked to the bone. Should I just continue to put a diaper on before bedtime or use pull-ups? Will that be confusing?

I had two kids that potty trained very differently...with my daughter, she went through steps of potty training using pull ups. First peeing and pooing on the potty, then staying dry long enough to warrant underwear, staying dry long enough to warrant wearing underwear outside and on errands, etc., staying dry during naps and me leaving the potty in her room and eventually staying dry at night and no longer needing a pull up at night. My son, however, pull ups did not work for him, I had to do the 3 day plan and go straight to underwear day and night.
That being said, I think kids learn night time training on their own time table, so I would suggest that you do try pull ups or nighttime diapers at night and tell your girls that they are their special night time underwear. If you feel like it's hindering their process then you can try underwear and always get a mattress protector, chux pads and some towels to lay down on their beds so if they have an accident overnight, you'll only have to change out a towel or a pad and not the whole bed.
Good luck with your decision and potty training!

I would try a pull up at night, and if it leaks, go back to diapers. I don't think it will be confusing to them. Good luck! Potty training is always two steps forward, one step back.

I've always used a diaper at night when potty training. My kids slept 12-13 hours too. some of them stayed dry at night right away and didn't need the diaper more than a week or two but some had accidents for a long time so it was less traumatizing to them to wear diapers then waking up wet all the time. (ok, easier for me too since I didn't have to change sheets every day.)

I would probably stick with the diapers. Pull ups are basically diapers anyway, if anything I think they could be more confusing as they look like underwear but you're saying it's OK to pee/poo in them.
None of my kids night trained at the same time they day trained and they all did fine having a diaper on for sleeping only. We just started calling them "sleeping nappies" and explained that it was because they couldn't go to the potty while they were asleep.
