So let me begin by saying, I'm totally NOT ready to even start thinking about this! BUT O has been driving me crazy by pulling at his diaper, trying to undress and then escalating into full blown tantrums any time my DH or I go to the bathroom, until we undress him and let him sit on the toilet. He has never gone in the toilet though.

I was at Target and bought a little toilet thinking, if he wants to sit on a toilet, let's get one he can actually sit on.

So I bring it home, and O sat on in the first night - nothing, but has shown no interest in it whatsoever since then. But R my other guy pooped on it the first time he sat on it Friday night, and has peed 5 out of the 6 times I've put him on it. He can say pee and poop, and he does tell me that's what he is doing, but he never asks to go potty, or tells me before he does it. I just take him to it when I'm going to be changing his diaper anyway. Is this dumb luck, should I pursue it more so I don't miss some window of opportunity?

I'm so not ready to start thinking about this!

    TIA

I would say to just keep doing what your doing. I wouldn't push it at this point. Just let them go when they want to or put them on before a diaper change like you are doing. If they start asking to go then I would persue it more.

I agree. At this age, I would follow their lead. If one is not interested, I would not push him or her at all and the one who is interested, I would just follow their lead.

if your child is showing interest, GO FOR IT!!! truly its not as bad as you think... and once they get it, its so much easier! a program I bought and liked was the 3 day potty training ebook available online. she "guarantees" potty training at 22 months... guess yours are younger than that... but I still think if they are interested don't ignore it.

we started haphazardly at 24 months, and finally at 27 months I did the 3 day program and a month later we're about done... though my ds has poopy issues... but otherwise, they are about pee training day & night and my dd is fully trained. Seriously, once we gave her full access to a small potty she about trained herself... though the 3 day program definitely helped her to understand to know to get to the potty in time.

    good luck!!

as for what you need. I got the simple 1 pc potty from IKEA, kinda like the Bjorn one. I also have a seat that fits the toilet and a Potette portable potty seat/that you can also put a bag on to be a portable potty.

I agree with this, it's still very very early, and while some children may pt around or before the age of 2, the majority will be after 2 yrs old. I would just continue what you are doing, it may just be a "new" thing to them and they will regress in a month and you don't want to set yourself up to be upset or disappointed that they are no longer pt'ing ;)
