Potty training

One of my twins totally took to potty training this time around. He even wakes up at night and goes. However, brother is not getting it. They are 3 and 3 months. He is difficult to get to try, no matter the reward. He is constantly wetting his underwear and pants and the worst part is he doesn't tell me. I know he can do it because when the prize is big enough he'll try, but I can't buy him a big toy everyday. I know when he's wetting or pooping and ask him if he needs to go and he says no. I've tried being on him all the time, encouraging him. I've backed off and just let him wet, hoping he would tell me. I would keep him in diapers, but the one who is doing well always wants to do whatever brother is doing. What do I do?

 

Take a breather from potty training for your second son. Sure, he's ready physically since you can get him to go when the prize is big enough. But he's not emotionally ready if he doesn't want to try. Not all twins train at the same time, so perhaps your second son just needs a little longer to accept the concept.

 

I had the same thing with my boys. I wouldn't force the issue with your other boy. Give it a couple months and try again. For me, twin 1 was in big boy briefs at 2 years 11 months. His brother was in diapers until he was 3 years 8 months. Just like you, I knew twin 2 was physically ready. He was actually the only one of my three that woke up dry each morning. But, losing the diapers to him was a major deal that he just wasn't ready for.
