My DS is doing well with potty training, mainly when he is naked.....My issue is say he is fully pt, and we go to a mall or public place and he has to go???He screams bloody murder, when he needs to be changed or even if he has to go in the bathroom with me (public place) I literally have to change him standing up, while hes holding on to me for dear life, screaming!!!Any suggestions on what to do when he is fully trained!!!

How old is he? If he's under three, I'd let it go and let him wear a diaper or pull up for now. If he's already 3 or very close I'd potty train at home fully clothed for a few days before venturing out.

You can also bring a little potty along with you in the car and let him go before you get out of the car. That should give you an hour or so before he needs to go again. And then you can always bring him back to the car if need be for another potty break. Eventually, he'll get over his fear of public bathrooms. They are pretty noisy places generally. He might be afraid of the auto flushers, the hand dryers, etc.

thanks for this topic... I haven't attempted PTing out of the house yet... and I know I do need to!

Ours go great at home while naked and have free access to their little potties, and I was just thinking that I need to transition to fully clothed training at home and to the toilet...

I have one of the Pottette potty seats that also is a freestanding portable potty... I have yet to attempt it, but again, I need to.

Interesting about the fear of public bathrooms, I'm sure my ds will be the one to have that fear... good to be aware of it!

I just started my little guy last week, and staying home wasn't an option. After he was scared of the public toilet the first time, I started keeping paper cups or empty plastic bottles in my bag. When he needs to go he uses those. Working great so far!

I wish there was an option for girls...I hate putting my DD on the public toilets :(

Sarah refused to use any public potty for the longest time, it was such a hassle, but, I just left a potty in the van, and we used it before we went in anywhere, and went back out to the van if she needed to go again. We did this for several months, and eventually she outgrew her fear and I was able to slowly get her to go to public potties. To this day, she is still skiddish about the potties and she has to be away from the potty with her hands over her ears when I flush, but at least she'll use them.
