My girls are 2.5 years old. We are working on potty training and next week after this marathon I am doing, I intend to get them fully potty trained. So, they only have their beds in their rooms and the bathroom door is a pocket door that I lock and have childproofed so they can't open it and get into the bathroom goodies. So, when they go to the bathroom at night or for naptime, how does this work? Our house is small and currently their bathroom is housing their changing area, clothes, shoes, and my bathroom stuff. I don't want them to have "free" reign to the bathroom because even if I empty the bathroom out, there is still a big bowl of water to get into (gross!). What did you do with your transition? What should I do? I am sort of thinking that I leave the lock on the bathroom door, but I don't want to encourage accidents. They already go potty before bedtime/nap time, but like last night, still ripped off the diaper and went on the floor right outside the bathroom since they couldn't open it. I felt so bad for her.

    Thanks!

Could you leave a small potty in their room for them to use? Or teach them to call out for you to take them to the toilet? Those are my only ideas, we never had to deal with it because none of mine night trained until they were older.

You could buy one of these. I had one on the toilet since they were around 18 months old. I had it on for a good 2 years before my one DS was able to pull it up and broke it.

When my one DS began PTing, he was obsessed with the toilet and flushing it and I had no choice but to lock the door. I set a timer and told him when it went off he could go potty.

That is what I would do. My boys were close to 3 1/2 before they were PT'd and had already given up naps. We go potty and brush teeth right before bedtime. If they need to go potty during the night, they will call out for me.

Are they going by themselves? I would leave a small potty in their room as well, but teach them to call you when they need to go. They'll need your help wiping for awhile ;)

My girls were 3 year old and I left a small potty in their room. Now after a few months one is okay with using the hall bath. However, I still have the potty in their room as sometimes its easier to get to and as you will quickly find out a few more steps makes a huge difference especially in the middle of the night. PTing has its baby steps too :)

We have put toilet locks on the toilets in their bathroom and our master bathroom, but only engage the lock when they are in the bathrooms, such as for bath time or when they want to sit on their potties. I also installed cabinet locks on the cabinets below the sinks to keep them from getting to the toilet bowl cleaner, etc. We also have a lock on the bathroom door though because we generally don't want them in there unless we are in there too or very nearby, because otherwise they flush the toilet repeatedly and/or turn on the tub water which gets their sleeves all wet.

Just wanted to say that the title of your post made me laugh!

"jeez, can't they just leave the lotion and makeup alone!" - I think things like this about 300 times a day.
