DS (38 mo.) has been potty trained for a year now during the day and wears undies except for naptime and bedtime and then we use diapers. He has gone thru a few spurts where he didn't pee in his diaper at naptime but that is very rare now. I have tried telling him he will get a treat or stickers if his diaper is dry when he wakes up but that doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him potty traied at naptime? I am not that concerned about bedtime because I have heard that is usually at the very end. Maybe I don't need to be concerned but thought it was time since he's been PT for a year. TIA!

Does he sleep at naptime? If so, I wouldn't worry about it at all. It's possible that his body isn't ready to alert him when he needs to pee while he's asleep. My five year old is still in pullups at night because he is such a sound sleeper. If he still took naps, I bet he'd still wet then. The nap will eventually disappear and then night time will come on it's own for most kids.

Yes, he does sleep, most of the time. And I would say he is a fairly sound sleeper too, once he's asleep.

Yes, sound sleeper generally doesn't have control... at least that is what we are telling ourselves. Clayton is 4.5 years old and still in diapers at night. Most of the time it is wet in the morning.

I would not worry -- he's probably not developmentally ready. My DS day trained at 2.5, nap trained at 3.5 and night trained just before 4.5. I like the rule of waking up dry for 7 days before ditching the diapers.

    Best of luck.

My DDs both day trained around age 3, but at age 4 they both wear pull-ups at nighttime, and one of them wears a pull-up for nap too. She just can't help peeing in her sleep. I've decided not to worry about it.

My ped said that it is a biological step that different kids master at different times, largely dependent on how deeply they sleep.

My DD wears pull-ups and wakes up soaked, my DS has worn underwear to bed since we took diapers away.

I do agree that not all kids are ready. That being said I didn't think my girls were ready until they accidently took a nap in undies & were dry... and then went to bed in undies and were dry! They completely potty trained in less then 2 months... they started at thanksgiving & were night trained 2 weeks ago... they are 2y8m. I would suggest trying naps first... just put him to de in underwear! I left a potty seat in the twins room next to their bed that way they didn't have to go far, I did the same with my DS for a long time. Anyways try it for a week & see how it goes, if he is dry at least half the time then he may be ready and then try having a little party when he is dry & doing all the rewards stuff. I think the big difference is if he is peeing while he is ACTUALLY sleeping or if he is peeing before he falls asleep or after he wakes up. If it is while he is fast a sleep then he likely won't train soon.

Something else that helps is to avoid fluids 30-60min before bed except maybe a few sips. And always use the potty first.

    Good luck!

Glad I'm not the only one with nighttime pull up use, still. The boys will be 5 this June and are still in pull-ups. Will has stayed dry a handful of times but then goes right back to peeing, sometimes 2 times at night. So, we put him back in pull-ups. They are so big we actually had to move into the "big kid" pull ups. They are so expensive. I hope we can be done, soon.
