This poll is a spinoff on EllenJamie's question about brands. Also, do you have 2 potty chairs or 1?

I can't say "what's better", but I can say what I have and that's a ring. I didn't want to mess with a bucket etc. and have that extra clean up and didn't want a transition.

The reason a potty chair would be good is because you can have two at a time and they can sit together at the same time. Which happens a lot - they want to both go at one time and I can't do that.

We started with two potty chairs. Things were going fine, until we left the house. But they refused to use the big toilet - they wouldn't use it at home, grandma's or anywhere. I just couldn't tote two potty chairs everywhere we went, it wasn't feasible. The little potties had to go away and we switched to the rings. These were much easier to take along and could be used anywhere. This also meant that potty training started over for us because they had to be conditioned to the big potty.

We have the baby bjorn rings and step stools and that works really well for us! I have a bb potty as well, in case they both need to go at the same time. No one wants to use it though! I might take it along on trips and things though...

ETA - I also bought a folding ring that I used when we are out and about! It's been great b/c I don't have to worry about gross potties!

Ditto for us. I figured we should just start doing it this way since this is where you have to utimately get in the end. We got a step stool and they manage quite well.

We used potties and rings both until recently when they decided they'd rather balance themselves on the regular potty seat (and they get up there with a stepstool). Had I known they would only use the rings a handful of times, I would have skipped them.

Ditto again. They've started taking the ring off now and saying, "I'm a big girl I don't need this." Our toilets are short and now they can get on and off without a step stool, but we still use the step to wash hands at the sink.
We have two rings, one for each bathroom. Never had a potty.

I got a potty chair as a baby shower gift (I guess they had high hopes for my boys). They loved sitting on the thing fully dressed for a while. When it actually came time to potty train they wanted nothing to do with the little potty. They trained up on the big potty with a potty ring. They each dropped the potty ring pretty quickly, but I found it essential for a little boy to have a pee guard when they started out. DD never used her potty chair either, and I wouldn't have bought one for the boys, but it was a gift. As to which is better... whichever one you can convince your child to use!

I voted ring, but we bought the toilet seat from One Step Ahead that has the smaller fold-down seat tucked into the lid. It's great. Not that anyone here actually goes in the potty, but they do like sitting on it and reaching behind them to throw toilet paper into the potty. :)

We eventually switch to a ring, but to start out a little potty that they can go anytime and sit down on worked for us. Eventually once they are trained we switch to the big potty with a ring.

Katelyn dosen't like the ring any more either. She goes in and can do her business all by herself now too!
