I am going to invest in potty chairs soon. I was going to get the cute ones that flush, etc with music.
Then I was wondering if it will not focus enough on the action of pottying and will be too much of a toy.

So did you use a plain model, or go with a fancy one?

I don't know if a fancy one would hurt, but I don't think it would help all that much. Sitting on the potty is a big enough deal (at least in our house), it doesn't need to be supported with lights & music.

Well, seeing as how I had to buy four of them (two for upstairs and two for downstairs) they needed to be cheap, for one thing. I don't think the bells and whistles really help at all. I got the Safety First potties that have little lids, and that's really enough fun for them, lifting up the lid.

Yeah, I wast thinking about getting 4 for the same reason.
If so, I will get El Cheapos for sure!!

But I think I may do that anyway to keep focus on the point of it all.

We have the cheapest of the 3 in 1 potty seats (one from TRU and one from WalMart). They are simple, easy for the kids to use, and that makes them perfect!

We have a whole bells and whistle one for each of them...they were ok with it, but now rather have the little seats that attach onto the real potty. The other ones are in a closet stored away. They are doing better with the real potty and it makes it easier for when we are somewhere else. Just my thoughts... :D

We have the FP "Royal Potty" that plays music. I pulled the batteries out because it was too much fun to flip them over and press the button to make the songs go or to stick their fingers/feet on the sensors to make music. They finally did tire of taking it apart but that was an issue at the beginning. I think simple would be better.

I have simple potties here too. I have the Baby Bjorn Potty Chairs for downstairs and I have the Baby Bjorn little potty for upstairs. I also have the baby bjorn potty rings. The girls will go on their potties and on the toilet too. I didn't want anything too fancy because I didn't want them to think it was a toy.

I got the little potties because they are small and easy to take wherever we go wether it is my parents, my IL's or just a friends house.
