Potty chair or ring?

I know that people have different opinions on what to use, but can you tell me what you used, liked, disliked and why? I am leaning toward using a ring and not a potty chair. It just seems that they need to get use to the toilet itself and not be dependent on the little potty. I could be totally wrong. Am I? We are just getting things together to begin the process so I am looking for suggestions and even approaches on how to start the process. They are telling me when the are "stinky" and sometimes when wet. Is this enough to get started? Any feedback would be appreciated!!

My sister gave me her old potty stuff: a ring and 2 stand-alone potty seats. Really, they all are very useful! You wouldn't think you'd have the situation often where they both need to use the potty, but it sure happens to me a lot! I kept one potty seat and a ring in the downstairs powder room, and the other upstairs (and got myself another ring for up there). We alternate who uses the seat vs. ring. Oh - I had to get step stools so they could step up to the toilet and get on the ring confidently (my girls are a bit short).

I have the rings for the toilets (the kids hips are a little narrow and aren't comfy on them quite yet). I don't want to mess with the clean up associated with the stand alone seat that my Dad made for the kids!!

I moved this into the potty training subforum as we are trying to remain consistent!!

We never owned a potty seat, just the rings. I never had a problem using that.

We've never had a potty, just the rings. I also think they should just used the toilet from the start. Plus we have a small house so the rings make more sense space wise and they were also cheaper. We have a non slip step stool to help them get on and off. We've been using it for a long time now and only once have we ever had an accident where one couldn't wait until her sister finished.

We bought the potty seats that have the lid that comes off and makes a ring for the toilet. Both girls actually prefer to sit on the toilet so that is what we usually use. However, sometimes, we have morning potty time in front of the tv so the potty seats are useful. :D But, my girls are not even close to being potty trained. We are just learning about the potty and becoming comfortable with it.

We just bought rings and plan to train on those only. Good luck!

We also bought the potty that has the ring. The First Years makes a great seat that has a removable ring and the base can be used as a step.

I bought a potty chair for DD when she was training and I was given one at the boys baby shower. They have all trained on the RINGS! None of my kids wanted anything to do with their little potties. DD was actually afraid of it. I say save the money buy a step and a potty ring and train them to go like mommy and daddy does on the big potty.

We have both. Just one of each. Aiden will only sit on the ring and Noah refuses to sit on either, but at least he has the option.

I searched and researched, and I think that Baby Bjorn is the best. The seat has only two parts so it is easy to clean, and the ring has a knob to tighten to the toilet seat. We have another ring that just sets in there and it wobbles a lot! I think that's why Noah is afraid of the big potty now. :(
