I know this sounds crazy but is it reasonable to wait on my toddlers big girl bed (from crib) until a little later because of worry over the stairs? the twins are just now months old, and still not in their cribs and i just feel like there is so much going on that even though she is good at the stairs(they're spiral) i would rather wait a little while and be certain she understands not to get out etc. anyone else do this?

She is still young. You can can probably have the twins sleep in one crib till the are 8 months old if not older. In fact my girls slept in one crib last night because Sydney climbed into Dani cribs.

I would get a get for the stairs just because you never know when she will be able to climb out of her crib.

I postponed until age 3 and we don't have any stairs. I say go with what makes you feel safe and sane. Age means nothing over mommy's peace of mind, in my opinion, as long as she is safely staying in her crib. Kayla started to climb so I got crib tents.

I know I was worried about stairs as well, but you can gate her room. OR gate the top of the stairs. I'd go with her room because they have a tendency to roam once the crib walls are down.

I'm keeping mine in their cribs as long as possible! Not for fear of the stairs as much as my fear that they will NEVER sleep again!

Me too! I'm hoping they never learn to climb out since crib tents won't work with our cribs.

I left my singleton in a crib until he started climbing out. Then we converted his crib into a day bed with a safety rail. Since we live in a two story farm house and have never had a gate at the top (not really possible the way the stairs are made- we always used doors as our gates), we just started pulling his door shut at night. Then when he learned how to open the door (once again a baby proof door handle thing did not work on his old door handle) we had to put a little lock on the top. We are upstairs in the next room and if we heard him cry out or rattle his door we got up and opened it up and found out what was up. He never was locked into his room unless he was sound asleep and luckily he has been sleeping very solid for at least the last 6 months. Anyway, this is an option. I was also afraid of the stairs if he came out when he was 1/2 asleep and 1/2 awake.

Better safe than sorry is my motto!

Do what's right/best for your dd.

We had the boys out of cribs - due to their issues of trying to flip out of bed and banging the cribs against the wall.

We put a gate at the top of the stairs as soon as they could crawl.

But again, if you're only doing this for use of a crib, make sure she's ready for the big girl bed.

    good luck with your decision!

We have always had a gate at their bedroom door, so they could roam for a bit in safety and I didn't have to worry about the stairs. Once they were crawling around 6-7 months we got a gate at the bottom of the stairs. Honestly if you have a climber, sometimes a gate at the top of the stairs can be bad because they/she might try to climb over that. One of mine can climb over the gate at their bedroom door, but rarely does it since we can hear them rattling and they're just used to waiting for us to come see what's up.

From what I remember we moved the girls to one crib at about 6 weeks and then to two cribs at around 3-4 months when they were wiggling out of their swaddling/kicking each other.
We switched to big girls beds a little after 2 years. But mine had been climbing out of their cribs since 19 months or so. Naps became harder (and they weren't that easy to begin with), but bedtime wasn't much different.

Best wishes with whatever you decide,

Personally, haven't put my girls in "big girl" beds, yet. They are 28 months old and when they are awake, they get into everything. I just don't like the idea of them having run of the house if I decide to sleep in. I will probably go to toddler beds at 3, or when we just can't keep them in the cribs anymore.
