Post Partum Rash?

This is so weird. I developed a rash on my legs and arms about a week and a half after delivering the twins via c-section.

It itches like crazy and seems to flare up the most at night. It almost looks like little bug bites. I went to the dermatologist and he said it definitely wasn't bug bites. He prescribed me some steroid cream and it didn't do anything. In fact, I think it made the rash a little worse!

I've read that it could be a post partum rash. This is just a wild guess, as I have no other explanation as to why I'd develop such a strange rash like this on my legs and arms. I'm wishing it would just go away already! I go back to the dermatologist next week, hopefully he'll have some sort of decent answer as to what it is!

My question is, did any of you develop a rash after giving birth? If so, how did you get rid of it and how long did it take to go away? TIA!

yes! I had a rash just like what yours sounds like. I didn't correlate it with post partum though. It drove me crazy and I would get it more often at night on the insides of my legs. I thought it was from the weight I gained and walking causing it friction. If I remember right, I developed it days after birthing the twins and it lasted about a month. I would put hydocortisone on it but it still drove me crazy. good luck!

 No rash here, but just thought you could use a hug! Sorry you are itching like mad. Just what you need when taking care of twins, right?

Oh my goodness!!! I was literally scratching the heck out of my legs when I saw your post! I have been scratching like crazing since my boys were born six weeks ago. I got poison ivy at 36 weeks (I could have killed my DH since I got it from his clothes!) and thought that it was coming back. But it definitely isn't poison ivy again. I didn't know what it was. I have actually scratched so hard that I've broken the skin on a number of places.

I actually have my post partum check up today so I'll ask my dr. and let you know what he says. It's absolutely horrible and I'm feeling for you. Mine actually seems to be going away somewhat... I don't seem to be scratching around the clock like I was previously.

I'm sorry for you girlie. From one scratchy momma to another!

    Thanks so much ladies!

I'm pretty sure it's a PP rash of some sort. It's just SO strange that it's on my legs and arms only!

Erin, I can't wait to hear what your doc says. :)

I hope we can find a solution to all this itchiness..it just sucks!

I have had keratosis pilaris on the backs of my arms for as long as I can remember. It's these little bumps that look like whitehead pimples. During my first pregnancy it got worse but went back to normal after the birth. But this time it flared up really bad, spread to the backs of my shoulders, and after the babies were born popped up on the tops of my thighs. It is mildly itchy. A dermatologist once prescribed a steroid cream with lactic acid in it, which helped but it can't be used when you're nursing because the lactic acid may be able to get into breastmilk. If my legs get much worse, I am going to re-visit the dermatologist, though. It's hard to scratch when you've got a nursing pillow and two babies in your lap. ;)

I had the same rash that came up about a week after my c sec. I took prednisone which helped clear it up. It still isn't gone completely. I saw an allregist last week. They have no idea why I have it. They put me on allergy meds and steepid cream. I've had this type of rash several times before. It all started after I had a miscarriage over 2 years ago. I'm convinced its hormone related.no one knows why I'm getting them including my ob.

I have a six week old baby and developed the same rash on my thighs and legs at about 4 weeks. It is worse at night and itches like crazy. Did anyone find out from their dermatologist what this is and what should be done?

This is driving me nuts too! I just had my twins 3 weeks ago and this rash is really getting on my nerves. I had PUPPPs at the end of my pregnancy (another joy) and I was wondering if this was a continuation of that. I'm going to try cool showers, sleeping under only a sheet, and some powder to keep my legs dry. I have been having really bad night sweats and it's always more itchy at night. Hope someone posts a solution b/c this could drive me more nuts than having babies that refuse to sleep at the same time!

I had this after my boys were born too, but I was never diagnosed with anything. They talked about me having an allergic reaction to the c section meds but I'd had a previous c section with no reaction. The itching lasted almost 8 weeks! It was awful- it was all over my arms and legs, my belly- just about everywhere but my face and my bb's! My ob gave me an antihistamine but it made me drowsy (which I could definitely not afford.) It was awful, so I feel for all of you and hope you get some relief soon!! Good luck!
