I had my csection 9 days ago. I am extremely constipated. Still haven't been able to pass a bowel. Its there but so hard I can't seem to get rid of it. I have been straining all day trying and it is extremly painful. I am so sore I can't sit on my bottom now. I am forced to lie down. I guess the vicodin I have been taking for pain has caused the constipation. I bought stool softner from the store, took it 6 hrs ago and no relief yet. Any advice on how I can get relief? Thank u.

 I would give the Stool Softner a little while longer to work and if that doesn't do the trick try some Milk of Magnesia. I hope you get some relief soon!

Happened to me, too. Make sure you drink lots of water, walk around as much as you can and take the stool softner for as long as you are taking the narcotics.

Give yourself an enema. I had that same problem after the birth of my first ds and I was miserable. I talked to my OB about it and he asked if I had tried one yet. I was hesitant (never had one before) but was willing to try anything! Afterward I was on cloud 9. It was the best feeling ever!!! LOL

After my dd my ob said milk of magnesia was safe, it tasted terrible!!

Colace I think is the name of one too that I used after the milk of magnesia tasted so bad!

My dr. sent me home with a prescription stool softener that was stronger than an over the counter one - maybe you could call your OB & get something a little stronger??
    Hope you feel better

Warm bath if you can... I'm not sure what day they let you take baths, I think it's after the first week... But if you take a nice warm bath and sit in it for awhile then try to go, that helps a lot!

    Congrats on your new babies!

I needed a glycerin suppository to "go" for the first time post c-section.

I also had this same problem due to the pain meds after the birth of our first dd. My doctor told me to use an enema. It gave immediate relief!!! I strongly encourage you to try this if you haven't. I plan on having one on hand this time too. (Last time I had to send my husband to the store to get it!!) Good luck!

I and preggy have major constipation too and it's so bad I'm bleeding and not much helps! I eat prunes daily with tons of water and a warm cup of tea and stool softners....only then can I pass something. Good luck. I know how bad this feels. HUGS

I had one on hand for after my second ds too! And I'm planning on having another on hand after I deliver the twins!!! With my firstborn, I had to have my mom go buy one for me. It was embarrassing, but like you said...instant relief!

you are suppose to take stool softener everyday with Vicodin. I had the same problem, had to use enema. I got off the vicodin after only a couple of days, and it really helped.

For pregnancy constipation, I've found that eating a bowl of All Bran cereal every day helped a lot. I was eating tons of prunes too, (still am) but it didn't help until I added the cereal.

I'm already on 3 Colace/day and a lot of docs here will do an enema if you don't have a movement in the first couple days post-delivery. I've been taking the Colace for weeks just because they worry about me being on bed rest and not getting up as much. Move around if you can and definitely call your doc about your options...I know the constipation is miserable!
