Well at my appointment Thursday, my cervix was at 2.01, and the Peri., put me on "strict" home bedrest for the weekend... which I had put myself on before, Limiting everything, except quick showers and potty breaks. So he said for me to come in Monday.. to check it again.... if it's the same or shorter, then I would be put on hospital bedrest. I'm a lil' discouraged.....being that I'm only 24 weeks... but I'm not having contractions, cramping pressure or anything.. my cervix is just shortening... I just need some encouraging advice here ladies... and I need some tips on what to pack in my bag (just in case) I do get put in the hospital... thank you in advanced!

Sorry to hear this. Did they hook you up to monitors to determine if you were having contractions? I ask this because when I went in for my 24w appt. I found out my cervix was really short too, and it was 4 something at 20 weeks, and they asked me if I was having contractions and I told them no. I didn't feel anything. They sent me to the hospital to find out if I was having contractions and sure enough I was, even though I didn't feel a darn thing!

I also had an emergency cerclage placed at 24w, which is the latest they usually do them, so I guess you are past having that done.

Let us know what happens Monday! :hug99:

My cervix shortened way shorter than 1cm at 16 weeks (0.2cm to be exact) and I had an emergency cerclage. It started shortening again, despite home bedrest, at 23 weeks. At 24 weeks I was put on hospital bedrest, and spent 4 weeks there remaining stable. Went home and right before 31 weeks I started contracting on the way to my weekly peri appointment and baby A's water bag broke, we delivered 48 hours later.

Did they check if you were having contractions? I was having them very early on, 16 weeks, but I had no idea I was. I didn't feel them. I was put on meds to control the contractions, and they worked well up until that 30w5d mark.

I just got out of the hospital I am 16 weeks and 5 days. I have been on home bedrest since my 5th week due to horrible bleeding. (I had 4 blood transfusions on Monday!)

Ok What to pack in your bag, A good attitude first of all, go in knowing you are doing this for the babies, it really does help.
Books, a laptop, chapstick, personal items (tooth brush, deoderant etc...) Get hubby or someone to get you thank you cards so you can pre address them for your shower! Lifesavers, or hard handies, any snackie stuff you want. They may even let you wear your own clothes/night gowns so take them!!

I also spent 8 weeks on bedrest with my first son.....from 32 weeks to his due date! I pretend the hospital is a exclusive resort, and the medical staff is there to wait on me hand and foot!!!!

Good luck to you and God Bless,

    Missy

Missy~ That was awsome advice! Also, if you get a nurse who does not share this feeling and you are there long-term a week or more, feel free to ask to not be on that nurse's rotation. There is nothing wrong with that and there is no reason you in your condition should have to put up with that. Also, every once in a while get your DH to bring in ice cream or other treats for the nurses!!!! That will win you TONS of brownie points!!!

    Now then, your bag~
    ADD to the list above
Magazines, a portable dvd player and your favorite dvds, I even brought the old nintendo and hooked it up to the tv! LOL!! I know it sounds crazy, but somtimes the wonderful monotany of tetris can waste hours away. I would also take a project of some sort. I crocheted and cross-stiched until the carpal tunal got too bad. They were special projects for the babies!!

I also had my baby girl at home so I wrote her a note everyday! So get someone to pick up some of those $.99 miss you cards that you can send to anyone at anytime!!! :)
Hope you don't have to go today!!!
    Waiting impatiently for the update!

Well ladies Praise The Lord, I didn't have to be put on hospital bedrest, just strict bed rest at home!!!! My cervix lengthened back up to a 3.1 ( it was a 2.01)!!! But when pressure was added it was just a 2.5... so still better than Thursday......... I also got monitored today... and I "flatlined" NO CONTRACTIONS!!! YAY!!!! So now I go every week to see my peri and get my cervix checked!!! Thanks for all the well wishes ladies!!!

That is GREAT!!!! I went in at 24 weeks and wound up being taken up to L&D, having a FFN and being told that it was positive and that I would not be leaving until I was done with contractions or delivered babies. I was COMPLETELY unprepared for that. I thought I was uncomfortable because it was hot and humid and I was not used to yucky New Jersey summers yet. It was a hard learned lesson. Just remember to follow the rules...

Missy that was a great list for the bag!!! The only things I would add are your own socks - hospital floors are freezing and the ones that the nurses gave me to wear were way too small for my big, fat, swollen, elephant looking feet. Also, if you are ever going to "be around a while" take your own jammies. Hosp gowns are not very comfortable and they always wound up bunched up at my bra.

    Hang in there!!
