We had an ultrasound yesterday and they saw a huge improvement in the fluid levels of the babies! It is not an exact science, but they thought that Baby A's fluid level was 8cm (less than before) and Baby B's fluid level was anywhere between 4.5cm and 6cm (more than before). What WONDERFUL news. Both babies have good visible bladders, strong hearts, are swallowing and have normal size stomachs. They also said that they could see the dividing membrane swaying in the fluid. This is a good thing because before it was sucked to Baby B pretty tightly. They were trying REALLY HARD to disprove the good findings. They looked around for about 45 minutes! I'm glad for this, because I know they were really looking hard at EVERY detail of the babies and they just could not find anything wrong. Dr. Amon really seemed stumped about the fluid. I just saw him on Monday(4 days ago!) and the fluid levels were very different. He even asked me today if I had a procedure done between Monday and today! I guess he meant like an amnioreduction on my fluid. I did tell him that I am doing the increased protein diet and resting but other than that nothing. He said, "Good". Maybe the protein and rest are really helping. All of the ladies that have been emailing me about TTTS have said that they think lack of protein and calories often cause this.

One thing that Dr. Amon saw that he said he is most concerned about now is the dividing membrane between the babies. He thought that there might be a loose flap or something, maybe an area where the membrane is starting to tear. He said the concern here is that it can wrap around one of the babies' body parts, I guess cutting of circulation etc. So this is something that he wants to also keep a close eye on. The u/s technician seemed to think that instead of this tearing that it could possibly be just the angle that we are looking at the membrane causing it to look strange. She said sometimes with twins you are kind of looking through one membrane to the next and it is like seeing double. Who knows, all I know is that we finally had a positive appointment!!! Please keep us in your positive thoughts and prayers...something is working!
