positive ffn test

I mentioned this in my longer post, but I'm extremely curious about this aspect of my situation.

I did get a positive ffn test a few days ago. From what I understand the negative test is 99% accurate in predicting you will NOT deliver in the next two weeks, but the positive isn't nearly as accurate. So I'm really wondering, for those who have had a positive result, what the outcome is/was.

This might be a dumb question but what is FFS?

 

Ffn stands for the fetal fibronectin test. This test can be performed between 22 and 35 weeks and is a vaginal swab (similar to a pap smear) which can tell if you're more likely to deliver early. Negative results are around 99% accurate, but positive results aren't nearly as accurate. Fetal fibronectin is a glue-like substance that keeps the baby in the uterus. When it starts to break down in preparation for labor it starts leaking into the vagina, which is what the ffn is testing.

 

My Dr told me that a positive fFN test is really inconclusive. It doesn't necessarily mean that you WILL deliver early.

That being said, I had a positive fFN test at 24 weeks, and did not deliver until 28 weeks 1 day. Good Luck!

 

I've only had negitive results sorry! I am curious to know others experiances.

 

I have a friend who had several positive ffn's and didn't deliver until close to 36 wks. It's really inconclusive from what I've read!

 

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Just try to take good care of yourself.
