Hello Ladies. My name is Barbie, I'm 28 weeks 5 days w/ b/g twins. I have been on bedrest for five weeks now, due to a beakening cervix. I tested + for the fFN test. I know it's only a 20% chance of delivering in 2 weeks. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and did or didn't deliver w/in those 2 weeks? I am not contracting, no significant discharge, no dilation. I know the positive result isn't very reliable, but it's still frustrating.

    thank you!!

Hi there! I had the test three times - first two it was neg. I didn't have them [IMG] Third time it was positive and I had them w/in the two week period. But I was also contracting - which was causing changes in my cervix - so there were other signs pointing to delivery as well. I will tell you that I had the second test w/in the two week window that I had them as well - so so much for neg. meaning something - I think it's a really subjective test - and I wouldn't give it too much weight!

    Hang in there!

I had a positive fFN 3 weeks ago and I'm still pregnant [IMG]. I've been having tons of BH contrax but no real changes in my cervix since then (still a fingertip dilated). My doc was fairly unconcerned about the positive, gave me the same rough 20% stat, and did a repeat the following week (which was neg).

Chances are you won't deliver in 2 weeks, but stay on that bedrest just in case [IMG].

Thanks for the info. This whole pregnancy has been so crazy. I joke and say, I feell like I'm waiting at the DMV and I have my ticket, and I'm just waiting for them to call my number. I try to stay positive and I truly believe that it's out of mine and the dr's hands and it's totally up to god now!!
My dr isn't all that concerned, she said that she doesn't even want to see me next week, if there's no changes.

    thanks again!!

If you don't mind my asking a really dumb question - what is the fFn test?

    Fetal Fibernectin

Fetal fibronectin (fFN) is a protein produced during pregnancy and functions as a biological glue, attaching the fetal sac to the uterine lining. During the first trimester, and for about half of the second trimester (up to 22 weeks of gestation), fFN is normally present in the cervico-vaginal secretions of pregnant women. In most pregnancies, after 22 weeks this protein is no longer detected until the end of the last trimester (one to three weeks before labor).

The result is either positive (fFN is present), or negative (fFN is not present). The results are valid for up to two weeks from the date of the test. A negative fFN test result is a highly reliable predictor that delivery will not occur within the next two weeks. A positive result is a less reliable predictor of preterm labor: there is still a fair chance that the pregnancy will continue for at least another two weeks.

Your story sounds almost identical to mine, following the same time line. I too had a positive fFN test at 28 weeks, but managed to hold out until 34w4d when I delivered two healthy babies! We didn't even need NICU time. So, let that give you some hope that you can carry this pregnancy for several more weeks!
