Brandon has been on and off his for a month and yesterday while we were out he really needed it badly and we were a ways from home. I have asthma but have never had a portable one so i dont know much about them. Does anyone here have one? Can you hook a mask up to it? Did your ins. cover it?

When the girls were babies they had a bad chest cold and the pedi gave us one and it was covered through insurance. She gave us the tube and masks that go with it. I only used it that one time, thankfully. I still have it just in case though.

Well I called the Dr's office this morning and told them the situation and that it would be better for us to have one that we could use in the car b/c we are never home. She told me that b/c I just got the home neb. that the ins would not cover one for the car and I I needed to call them. so I called the ins. comp. and they told me I justed needed the Dr. to call and get an authorization... OK so I call the office back and they tell me that just b/c its easier for us to have one in the car is not a reason to have one. if I had a special needs baby or a baby on a vent that would be different..... So I guess we sit home all the time or take a chance of going out and have to rush home from where ever we are in order to do a treatment...... I'm have so had it with my drs office... this is not the first issue I have had with them and I think its time to change!

Time to change to a new Pedi!

I think that is ridiculous. Are you sure that response is actually coming form the doctor? I have found that many times, it is the front desk staff and the nurses that give off these "flippant" responses without ever "bothering the doctor."

If he has been prescribed one and needs the treatments, what is the difference if you NEED it in the car or at home or on Mars?

In the meantime maybe you can bring your big one with you. A pain I know, but you can usually find a plug somewhere or buy a car adaptor that plugs into the lighter. We have a nebulizer for my daughter and are considering going camping and Dh says that is what we would do for her treatments.
