what do you do when someone has pooped in the tub? We grab them out and wash their hands, but I can't imagine how we would clean otu the tub, refill it, and hose them down. The kids start screaming the second you take them out. Help - this is happening more and more :)

We just switched them to the other tub, washed them real quick and then scrubbed down both of the tubs, put all the toys through the dishwasher and rinsed the tub out with a bleach/water mix.

If you don't have another tub, you could always use the sink to re-wash them.

We took them out, drained the tub, scrubbed it with a bleach cleanser, rinsed the tub, and then started aaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllll over again. Ben went through a phase where he was doing this almost every night. Lasted about two weeks and he never did it again.

Mine were doing this too on a regular basis. They've since not done it as much, but this last week, it's happened twice. It usually happens at the end of the tubtime. I'm usually drying off one and putting on PJ right there in the bathroom on the counter while the other one is in the tub still. The one left in the tub poops and then I just take her out hose her down in the sink. I get them squared away first and then attend to the tub and toys. I let the toys soak in a hot bleach/water solution in the bath sink and scrub the bathtub down with comet.
If they were to do it in the middle. I'd probably take them both out and bathtime would be over. They completely freak out when they go....I can always tell way before I look.
Good luck. I don't think I ever found this situation in any book I read!....sucks what life really gives ya, hard to make lemonade outta this situation!

This may seem way off (I know our kiddos are almost exactly the same age), but have you considered putting a potty in the bathroom and having him try it out before bath time?

My Nick is fascinated with pee-pee and poo-poo and has started holding his urine so that he can pee-pee in the tub every single night. It's not b/c he's cold or he has touched the water....the second he gets in he stands up and litterally looks down for a few seconds to will it out of him. I tried putting him on the toilet one night but it scared him. I'm thinking with a small potty he'd find it novel enough to try?

I haven't bothered because I'm in no way prepared to start potty training...nor do I want to be doing it for 18 months straight.

This is what we did too! Unfortunately, tub pooping occurred in our house for a loooong time. I posted about this not too long ago when I was just at my wits end. Thankfully it has stopped for the most part, but it still happens occassionally.

The only thing that I wouldn't clean right away were the bath toys. I usually threw them in the sink and put them through the dishwasher later (and then scrubbed out the sink). I didn't have the patience to scrub all the toys at that point.

Good luck and I hope this phase passes quickly! My DH laughs and laughs about it... because he's rarely around for bathtime... but I found it to be terribly frustrating, especially at the end of an already long day.

We grab them both out and remove the poop ASAP (before it has a chance to dissolve -- yuck!). Then we drain the water. (It's much easier to remove the poop before you drain the water.)

If the kids are already washed and rinsed and they were just playing, we just dry them off and call it good, unless there was confirmed poop contact. If so, or if we hadn't washed them yet, we whisk them to the other bathroom (we're lucky we have two tubs) and give them another quick wash/rinse. They do not like this at all.

After the kids are dealt with, we run a few inches of water back in the tub and pour in some bleach, then close the door and let it sit for 15-20 minutes (while we get the kids dressed). We don't actually scrub the tub unless poop got smeared on it somewhere. We run the bath toys through the dishwasher.

This hasn't happened for us in a while (knock on wood), but we did have a month where Sarah was doing it often. I think it was around 20 months? It usually upset her, and for awhile she was very bath-avoidant, I think because she was afraid of pooping in the tub. Fortunately she is more or less over this (for now), and Amy never did it.

Matt and Mia went through a phase of doing this. DH got pretty used to hearing me yell "CODE BROWN!!!" from the bathroom. We'd scoop the kids up, call bathtime over for the night. I removed all the poop I could first, then drained the rest of the tub. Scrubbed, then let it sit for an hour or so with bleach water. And, run any toys that were in the water through the dishwasher.

Luckily it was a phase that didn't last too long.

Us too. We would wrap them in towels and scrub out the tub quickly. It only seemed to last for a few weeks then it passed.

We're going through this at least once a week these days. Not good. My DH usually isn't home from work yet, so the logistics are challenging.

I always scoop out the chunks first. If DH IS home, he strips to his boxers (modest) and gets in the shower (a separate stall across the bathroom from the tub). I hand him a kid, and he washes her thoroughly. He tries to make it fun by collecting water in his mouth and spitting fountain style, which our girls now do, too. He hands her out to me for drying and I give him girl #2. (No pun intended.) He cleans her too, and then everyone gets ready for bed.

When I'm alone with the girls, as was the case tonight, I've tried sitting them in the shower. Ha! I ended up stripping down and taking them both in the shower with me, where we sat on the floor and scrubbed. There has to be a better way to handle this.

Sorry to hear I'm not alone in this battle, ladies.

Mine, too! He would praise my DD (she had no clue) that she saved a diaper! MEN!?!??!
