poop regression

I started pt'ing my girls the end of May. After a few horrific days, one of them was an ace. After just a few short weeks she was pee/poop day/night trained. She was 100% out of diapers a month later. :good:

Since then she has had less than a handful of accidents, all pee. Every single one was because she got busy and I didn't remind her to try and go (yes, I still do that  ).

This past week, she has pooped in her pants FOUR times. FOUR. I started to tear up when she did it today. The first time was at the doctor's office last week. I chalked it up to the chaos of trying to get coats and shoes off, get weighed and measured and into the room, that's when it happened. She has done it three times since.

I am just so confused because she has been an ace at going to the potty. Diet hasn't changed, poop consistency hasn't changed, she has no rash. The only change is in their schedule. The girls had to give up naps because I have taken an afternoon babysitting job for a family of 3 kids. Both of my girls go with me, so it's not like I'm leaving her more.

Sorry this is so long. I guess I'm just wondering how to get her back on track. Do I start rewards again? Do I take away her stuffed bunny she made at Build A Bear when her diapers and binkies were finally gone?

I will share what we did - it will be the unpopular answer though...but I have my :panties: on - when the stickers and rewards charts and working FOR something didn't work (he was pooping multiple times per day) we had to take away his privileges...mostly his computer privilege on pbskids.org...we told him that if he kept pooping he wasn't going to be able to play - and it only took one or two times of not allowing it for him to stop...

I think if you're trying to train then the rewards are a good thing but if you're looking at regression then the big guns have to come out and stay out!

My girls have been 100% trained and for some reason both of them started peeing in the floor about two weeks ago. Allison even stood on her step stool IN FRONT OF THE TOILET and peed all over the floor. We began taking away priviledges for them not even attempting to go to the bathroom (I took away their movies for a day and took away their favorite doll for the day). I also scolded Allison fairly bad for peeing in front of the toilet. So far neither has done it again. I felt it was attention seeking because they only did it when they asked us to take them to the potty and we told them they were big girls they could go on their own.

Oh, Chelley, I'm sorry. That is so frustrating. I imagine it's because of the change in schedule, the littlest things can screw up their whole world. If it were me, I would give it a few days of talking to her about it, try the rewards again, before I took something away. Also a few extra days to make sure something isn't up with her stomach might be a good idea. If all else fails, I guess I would try losing privileges, but I always hate to go that route for potty training. I'm always afraid it's just going to make them dig in their heels more.

Thank you girls so much. I guess sometimes it helps to just know that I'm not alone. :(

Couple of thoughts for you -- can you try to get her on a pooping schedule? I know that sounds ridiculous, but it really works in our family -- for years now, I've been making Nadia a breakfast smoothie, which she drinks first thing, and then she takes a book and goes and sits in the bathroom, LOL, and 90% of the time she poops. Every morning! And then, she's usually done for the day.

When she was much younger, it used to be just before nap.

Also, I wonder if something else could be going on that's stressing her out a bit -- maybe just the dropped nap and the change in your routine is doing it. I say that because Nadia was trained in April 2006, and that November we left her with my parents for four days while we went to my best friend's wedding. She had two or three poop accidents then (she was two months shy of turning 3), but had never had one before then. I think it was just stress from the trip. She had one more accident after we got back home, and that was the end of it.

Good luck! Hopefully it's just a temporary thing.

I think regression with PTing is not uncommon. All 3 of mine went through some kind of regression and it was frustrating, so I feel your frustration.

What I did was just remind them that we poop and pee in the potty and I tell them that I know that they know that. I did a few extra reminders during the day and I did start back up with rewards for a short bit and that seemed to work.

    Good luck!

I was just thinking about this very thing tonight. In the beginning, we used to have them sit to try (to pee), so I think we'll have her go back to that. Great suggestion!!

I guess she did it again today while dh was home. Sigh.

Thanks again ladies! :bow2: The support alone is just what I need right now!! :friends:
