My twin DDs have shown a lot of interest in the potty lately so we let them wear panties/go naked and practice Thursday - Sunday and gave them a pull-up for naps/bedtime. One DD poo'd on the floor on Saturday while she was naked and it freaked her out. She was crying, trembling, her heart was pounding, etc. She woke up crying multiple times that night and again last night, and actually had a BM last night at 2am, which she has never done in her life. I've put the brakes on her training and am trying to get her to relax, but now she still cries and frets when she gets the feeling to go, even with a diaper on. I'm scared to death she'll get constipated and be fearful.

Is this normal, and do you think we should just wait a few more months and try again? Did you do anything special to help with this BM problem? I hold her and talk to her and tell her it's just like Mommy and Daddy's and just like what she did in her diaper.

I've gotten so many tips here for PTing and we've done a lot of prep work, so this reaction really took me by surprise and upset me. I'm in no rush to train them, I just was trying to follow their lead.

    Thank you,
    Trudy

I've never done PT'ing with them naked they always wore a pull up or underwear. I just got threw with Katie and she always wore her panties. I didn't start PTing with my 3 until they were 3. The boys were 3 and 1 week when they were fully trained and Katie will be 3 next month.

 i'm sorry it freaked her out  It sounds like you're doing the right thing though. I don't have any advice but wanted to send you hugs!

I was thinking that doing PTing while naked might help my ds who won't have a BM on the potty yet... he keeps going in his underwear... but now with your experience I might have to rethink... so sorry! I have not advice, just hope its a quick phase.

I put DD back in pull-ups and will take a break from PTing, unless she requests to go to the potty. She held on to me crying while she went this morning in her pull up, but I talked her through it and she was excited to put it in the toilet and flush it and wash her hands. She is getting a little better every day, so I think we'll get past it.

    Thanks for the support!

I think you're doing the right thing. :good: The only other thing I can think of is to let her watch her sister poo on the potty (if your other daughter doesn't mind), and get her to watch while you change your younger daughter's soiled nappy. Just to emphasise the point that there's nothing scary or bad about pooing.

You could also get some poo/potty related stories to read with her. There are a few different ones around like this or this or this. None of those are directly about potty training but they show lots of different animals with their different poos and bring some humour to the situation which may help to reassure her.

Good luck, I hope she stops being scared soon.

I ordered two of the books, thanks! We take her to the bathroom with us and I talked to her about how she's doing just what we do and how I want to see what color her poo is, and some other funny things about poo and told her that pooing is really kind of funny and how fun it is to watch it flush, etc. I'll let her see the baby's poo diapers and go flush them for her. Thanks for the advice!
