is what my ped rec. for vitamins but they seem to make their little tummys upset! They also don't seem to be absorbing the iron... their poopy is black! They spit it out too. Iv'e tried putting the dropper all the way to the back of their mouths as suggested, but they still manage to spit most of it out. I BF so adding to food is not an option. I also have to give it to them nekked becouse it stains anything it touches... including their skin! It looks like bruises! Geez! Any suggestions? I have recently stopped giving it to them all together!

my pedi recommended Tri vi sol. at that age, esp BF, they don't need a mulit vit. the only need the Vita D and whatever else is in the Tri-vi-sol. It is more fruity tasting than the Enfamil Polyvisol. Ask your pharmacist for availability. Sorry I don't remember who makes the tri-visol. My girls loved it. i could never find tri-vi-sol anywhere except for the pharmacy connected with our clinic. Could you pump a little milk then add the vitamins and try to get them to take it that way? Otherwise with pedi's OK you could start cereal at 4 months and mix it in cereal.
"D" visol is all that is recommended to exclusively breastfed infants until 6 months of age and where nursing mothers don't get a lot of sun, as far as i know. you may want to ask your ped why your babies need the extras. after 6 months our ped told us to give them tri-visol. if you pump, maybe you could add it to EBM? i usually nurse right afterwards so the taste doesn't linger... i also keep a wet washcloth handy.
My girls are on poly-visol for anemia of prematurity. I tasted that stuff and it tastes as bad as it looks The nurses in the NICU said that the vitamins taste so badly that they don't even try to give them to the babies plain. So, I mix the vitamins with about 15 mL of breast milk (I pump) or formula and they seem to do much better with them. Sometimes they still cringe and make faces when I give it to them, but they usually do finish off the 15 mL with vitamins. Also, you would want to give them the vitamins/milk before BF or bottle feeding them the "good stuff." Otherwise, or at least in our experience, they get full and see no reason to take the "icky stuff." I don't blame them! I know you said you are BF, but maybe pumping a little for that feeding just to get the vitamins down would help? I think our girls are absorbing the iron OK, as their poos are normal color. But, one of our girls has become slightly constipated and seems to have a gassy/upset tummy...I'm pretty sure it's from the iron. I feel so sorry for her, but the ped said that the poly-visol is necessary until their hemoglobin levels rise. Hopefully that will be soon and they can switch to a more "tasty" vitamin. Yes, we have staining issues as well. I wish I knew how to help you resolve that, but we haven't figured it out ourselves. We have quite a few stained clothes. I try to protect the clothes as much as possible with a burp cloth, but it's not always possible I guess.
I pump just a bit of milk and put it in that. It doesn't seem to bother them. Also, if you go to a baby store and find stain remover for vomit and spit up...it seems to take the stains out.
I put it in two ounces of pumped breast milk and my girls suck it down. They have gotten it since they were in the NICU. I think it is nasty stuff, but they don't seem to mind it.
It my understanding as well that bf babies need only vit d, We've used tri visol, but I am seeking out a Vit D only supplement. Enfamil makes Tri vi sol. it does stain clothing tho, so I give it to my boys when we're changing to or from bed. Teri
