Just wondering as I'm debating the best time to do this.
    Thanks!

Noam and Sapir stopped using their pacifiers when they were 2 and 10 months old.

For a while they would only use them in bed - during naps and night sleep... and then, I let them use them when they were sick and it got out of hand.

So... I decided to throw them all away and deal with the consequences. I see a lot of children here in Israel using pacifiers at older ages and it bothers me. Two and 10 months seems too old to me too... but at least in the end they were only using them in bed.

They did fine. They asked where their pacifiers were for a few days. If they saw another child with a pacifier, they would ask me where their's were.

Luckily, Hadas never wanted a pacifier (and I tried a few times to get her to use one)... so we didn't have any around the house.

    Good luck in deciding.

    call me a bad mommy..

i was going to give them up before he could talk.. wrong..18 months

i started going through a divorce.. so yes at three he still has that plug.. and i hate it..

but he clung to it when we seperated..

that being said.. hes giving it to santa this december:) and i have made it very clear that hes giving his binkis from both houses.

so the date will be set and im inviting (them) to hand over theirs too..

My son Ty was about 2 and I had to take it away from him. It took a while to wean him from the paci becauase he would scream and cry and so I would give it back to him. I finally got more fed up with it being stuck in his mouth so I threw it out so I didn't have it to give him. He cried for a week, but he stopped needing it.

We got rid of them at 13 months. I wanted them gone before they could ask me for them. I didn't do it at a year because thats when we gave up bottles.

They were two when we took them away. Kaitlyn was very upset about giving hers up and at that point they were only using them at bedtime. Sometime after one year we allowed them to only use them in their cribs/ beds.

One of my girls gave hers up around 4 months and the other one still uses it! I have a love hate relationship with it. I love it because she goes to sleep so easily with it. I hate it because she wakes up at night and cries because she can't find it and I have to hunt for it in the dark under her crib trying not to wake up the other baby - ugh!

Mine are 21 months and they still use them for naps and at night...not sure when we'll be stopping "cold turkey", and not looking forward to that!

Thanks for your replies everyone! It's interesting - the votes are pretty evenly divided. Whenever we do it, I'm not looking forward to it.

My oldest was a paci girl, the twins are thumb suckers. But with my oldest DD when she was 2.5 we had her start throwing it back in her bed after she woke up sleeping. She turned 3 in Oct. and that Christmas we gave all her paci's to Santa. It worked great because we made a big deal about it. She put them all in a bag, we wrote a note, and left both under the tree Christmas Eve. Santa was so thankful he left her a note back and a special present for giving them to him. We told her he would give them to other babies that needed them. It worked great. And it was easy to remind her that she gave them to Santa.

And after she went to bed, I threw them all in the trash so I would not be temped to give into her.

We did it just before age 2 1/2 (a month before to be exact) and honestly I was dreading it SO much. However, they did aewsome and we practically had no issues. We used the excuse they got lost or maybe Kasey (the dog) took it, because you weren't taking care of them -- mine used to constantly throw them on the floor. They whined a bit but we had no major drama. The only side affect was that it took them longer to fall asleep at nap and night time for about a week or so.
