My girls had their 9 month appt. last Monday, and something the CPNP said has been bugging me. Both my girls can roll over, and Mackenzie is a "destination roller" to get from point A to point B. Emma just likes to sit at this point, rolling only if necessary. Neither crawls yet...

The CPNP who saw them (this was our first visit with her) gave me an early intervention number to call if the twins aren't crawling by 10 months. They were born at 36w 4d, so we haven't really an used adjusted age for either one. But isn't it normal to begin crawling anytime between maybe 7-11 or even 12 months? Or are my girls delayed? Do you think we should call for an EI eval. if they aren't crawling at 10 months? My dh is very annoyed at this CPNP for alarming me when he thinks they'll be fine, so I'm a little unsure of what route to take.

    Hence the following poll: TIA!

    They sound normal to me....

I picked other for walking b/c we aren't yet (11 mos).

    I have late bloomers.

DS crawled at 11 months, walked at 15.5 months.

DD crawled at 12 months, walked at 17.5 months.

Neither needed early intervention for gross motor skills.

I wouldn't be too concerned with what he/she said ... EI is a great resource to have and the process takes a long time. To be evaluated is much different than being accepted for services. I would say it is perfectly normal for them to not be crawling (some never do) at this age.

I hesitated to vote because mine were so very early on the physical markers that they're the ones who aren't "normal". Anyway, I wanted to say that my mother tells me I NEVER crawled. I scooted around then went straight to cruising. And I walked early. All of the baby books say that there is not a marker for crawling for a reason. If they're mobile in any way then they are likely just fine and in fact, having a mobility skill like rolling to get somewhere will often delay crawling.

My boys started crawling at about 6.5 months, cruising at 9 months, and Eli has been taking 5 steps at a time lately.

I didn't vote because my twins did these things at very different times.

Amy: crawled at 6, cruised at 9, walked at 12
Sarah: crawled at 10, cruised at 9 (yes, she cruised first), walked at 14.5

No one ever suggested that I should be worried a/b Sarah not crawling earlier. She was a good sitter at 5 months, but she didn't even roll (at least not on purpose) until about 7 months and just never had any interest in doing anything on her tummy. I think she was finally motivated to crawl because she had begun pulling up and cruising, and realized that it was nice to be able to get around.

    Don't worry!

    They sound normal to me.

Mine crawled between 10-10.5 months, started cruising a week before 12 months, and I voted other for walking because they are not walking yet.

I don't think you have any reason to be concerned right now.

I voted: Crawled at 9 months

    Cruised at 12 months

    Walked at Other (15 months)

My boys were 2 months early, so if you adjust their age appropriately, then it would be 7 months, 10 months, and 13 months.

Andrew never crawled, he kind of scooted on his bottom. The PT we had told me that crawling isn't a milestone. So I wouldn't worry at all!

I had EI come in for an eval because they couldn't even sit up at 8-9 month old for 1 second without toppling over. The pedi didn't say anything, that bothered me. SO, I called EI myself and they were accepted and began therapy at 9 months. The process of eval was only about 1 month from the time I made the initial phone call to the time they started services. They started crawling at 12 months and were actually walking at 15-16 months. The PT was shocked. She really thought it would be closer to Christmas, but they took off and haven't stopped yet, unfortunately. As long as they are getting around some how is all that matters, really, according to the PT. I would just encourage your sitting daughter to use her other muscles by continuing to encourage tummy time, perhaps. That said, EI is a WONDERFUL program and no shame should be thought of for giving them a call.

I answered other for walking. Both of mine were a few days away from being 16 months old when they walked.

If this helps, I have a friend with a singleton baby that skipped the entire crawling stage and just started walking at 14 months.

I didn't vote because my girls did things very different

Sitting: Jazz sat around 6 months Jessy didn't sit till 7 or 8 months

Crawling: Jazz crawled at 8 months Jessy didn't crawl until 10 or 11 months (she's a bit of a perfectionist [IMG])

Cruising: Jazz cruised at 10 months Jessy didn't cruise(well) until 12 or 13 months

Walking: Jazz walked at 11 1/2 months Jessy just started walking at 15 1/2 months!

I would give them till a year for an evaluation but that's just me
