an idiot. I saw a post on here awhile back raving about these bottles so I got on the internet and checked them out. I thought "hands free feedings? Hallelujah!" So I ordered a couple. Now, I must be doing something wrong. I fixed the bottles, primed them so that the formula would start working it's way up, and gave them to the girls. DD2 had no trouble getting formula but did have an issue keeping the nipple in her mouth. DD1 couldn't even get started. DD1 was screaming like she hadn't been fed since birth so I quickly switched her bottle to a regular one and eventually gave up and switched DD2 to a regular one as well. It seemed like the one girl who could get formula out had to work really hard to get it. Is there some kind of really obvious thing that I'm doing wrong (after all, I am blonde)? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I could not stand those bottles!!!! They never worked for us - and such a pain. Some people really like them, though. I just wanted to let you know that you are not an idiot (or maybe we both are :p )

My girls don't like them. A lot of times they can't get the milk up to their mouths either, and then sometimes they can't keep it going. They have to be really hungry and fussy to take the Podee. They really prefer to be fed from a regular bottle, we just use the Podee's if we need them, not on a daily basis.

Same for us. Never could get them to work properly and the kids hated them.

Your babies are still pretty young and may not have enough suck to keep it going. Mine didn't do well with them until they were 6months old or so. And even then, we just used them on the run because they were more of a hassle than (I thought) they were worth. But you will find a lot of ladies that swear by them. Maybe they just need some practice. :)

I love them now, but my kids couldn't get the hang of them until they were 4 months old. I still use one every day with the 10 month old that I babysit. I can give it to him and then go fix lunch for my kiddos. It was a life-saver for me. I'd try them again in about a month and see how it goes. Maybe your babies will have a strong enough suck by then.

It took mine awhile to get it and they really needed cereal in their bottles for reflux so we just had to bag it. But, I loved the dream of them being able to feed themselves while I shopped in Target with peace and quiet and 2 free arms!! ;)

Oh my dreams were sooo shattered when I bought these and NEITHER of my boys could figure them out! I found them pretty annoying myself w/ all the parts!!

I returned them. Great idea-- not for us!!

Mine also have reflux. We just got Dr Brown Y cut nipples and use it with them. DS uses them every bottle. I have to help him keep the nipple in his mouth though. DD can use them when she is really hungry but dhe has to feel like sucking. I always have trouble getting her to finish the end of her bottle so we do not use the Podee bottle very often for her,

I love these bottles. Could not live without them. I have a bad upper back and could not hold bottles for the both of them at the same time without being in serious pain. We didn't start using them until the girls were about 6 weeks old so I don't know if they work well with younger babies. The only tips I would say are:

Make sure the piece that screws into the nipple part is in there nice and tight. If it's not tight then it takes a lot more force to bring the liquid all the way up. Also make sure the part that screws onto the top of the bottle is nice and tight too.

When I first started I tried holding a baby in my arms just like with a regular bottle while offering the Podee; they seemed more accepting of it that way and caught on really fast.

I prime the tubing by squeezing the nipple until formula is all the way in the nipple (although they can eat even with an empty tube to start but I don't like seing all the air in there). It usually only takes two or three squeezes to bring the formula all the way up. If it takes more than that, I know there is something wrong and I make sure all the parts are on tightly.

I wrap a burp cloth around the bottle b/c they do leak a little sometimes.

We have been using Podees for 3 months now and I'm very happy with them. Sophie seems to prefer them to regular bottles. I often feed one in a bouncer and one in my arms, then switch off for burping. Or sometimes they eat while I fold laundry! We have used them out at restaurants and stores with no problem. Now that they are grabbing everything in sight they do tend to hold onto the tubing and pull the nipple out, so I have to pop it back in several times before they finish the bottle. No biggie since it's not like I'm going to take off somewhere while they're eating.

Good luck! I hope you can make them work for you.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Podees!!!! :clapping: Did I mention I LOVE them? It took my boys awhile to get the hang of using them. But at one point everything is new for babies and they need a little extra help at the beginning. My boys needed me to help hold the nipple in as they got the hang of sucking enough and in a manner to keep it in their mouths. Once they did....ooohhhweeee....they just took off! They actually got to a point where they did not want any other bottle but the Podees. My guys too had reflux and needed a thicker mixture...we just adjusted by using a nipple with a wider opening and letting the formula sit for 5 minutes or more before putting in the tubing.

They are SO WORTH IT!!!! I now give one to everyone having a baby! Keep giving them a chance and you will NOT regret it! :a_smil09:

I got 6 of these as a present from another twin mom. My kids are seven and a half months old and they hate them. I really think for them, it is the nipple. They are used to Avent nipples and these are so different, my kids just spit them back out of their mouths. It is such a bummer. I only opened one pack, the other 4 are still in the blister pack. I hope I can sell them to someone one day!

I use these about once a day. I do have to prime the formula into the nipple for DD. I use it when I just dont have another hand to feed her with.
