Please tell me this is just a phase...

My boys are just over a year old. These days all they do is walk around aimlessly, banging into things and each other. They can't settle on any toys. They don't play with their toys or books when I'm near because they're too busy crawling all over me and whining, but the minute I go into the kitchen (open concept, right beside where they are), they just cry at the gate. I don't know - I just envisioned that I'd be having a lot more fun with my toddlers. There was a week or so there when they were fairly content to play together, look at books, explore their blocks, etc. but I guess it was short lived. Now they divide their time between getting hurt and getting into things they shouldn't. No matter how hard we try to baby proof they find something dangerous. Anyway, I guess I'm just having a rough week with two unentertainable boys, a rainy day that has me stuck inside (usually our daily walk is my saving grace), and the usual naptime woes. Just tell me when I can expect to have a little more fun??

Oh yeah - I could have posted this same exact thing. right there with you! Especially the past 5 days!! My girls are 13.5 mos, and it seems the 4 things in my home they can't go near, are the only things they want to play with. Every time they trip and fall (not bad though) they cry like they just cut off their hand. Sippy? no sippy? cry / whine / cry. change diaper - whine. take remote away - scream - say no - scream. That's my life with my girls right now too. I don't have any solutions for you as I'm at my wits end too! Sending you hugs and looking forward to what the other Moms have to say! I'm sure there HAS to be light at the end of this tunnel!

It has to be a phase. Mine are almost 17 months and this is exactly what we are going through in our home. They are normally quite pleasant and content so I am chalking it up to a phase! And this too shall pass.... right?

I posted this a few weeks ago ... mine are almost 16 months. We're not there yet ... hang in there (that's what I've been told). Some days are good, others not so good!

    Hey guys!

I'm only a few months ahead of you and it seems to be a little better! Or maybe I'm just better at ignoring the whining now! ;) We still do the tears if I leave the room (but lo and behold, within 30 seconds of me being out of sight, they stop ) , so I know that they're really okay and that helps me ignore it too.

And anytime they do the 'eh, eh, eh' while pointing at something I just really use that time to work with them on their words and hope that someday it'll click! So far we've accomplished 90% of the time they'll say "Duh!" for Done and wait for me to take their sippy instead of launching it. The other 10% they still launch it, but we're getting there. And that of course leads to immediately wanting the sippy back again, but that's another story.

Also, are they getting their molars in? My girls have had a relatively easy time with their teeth but the first molars were brutal! They were probably the most miserable and cranky that I remember them being since they were newborns! And it seemed to take longer for them to come in than the other teeth (makes sense when you see the size of the suckers!)

Learning to walk was an ugly, literally, phase for us. There is just no avoiding the bruises and clumsiness.

For me the hardest phase so far has been 16-20 months.

The most fun I've had is right now...including the last two months.

I found around 18 months that things in so many regards got easier and even easier as the months go on. They can now listen (or not listen  ) and comprehend exactly what I am asking them to do. Counting to 3 and time outs are effective. They can walk into stores and hold my hands. They play well with each other and can be left alone for more than 5 mins.
I have found if I need to go upstairs or the kitchen, whatever, and not pay attention/hold them, they may fuss for a while but if I ignore it w/in a couple mins they have moved on, you just gotta stay tough B)

Just wanted to say I feel the pain as well. My boys are 15 months and the whining, fussing, pointing at everything and saying, "eh, eh" is out of control. We live in central Europe and it rains 5 out of 7 days so we don't even have much opportunity to get out. Up until recently I was torn about working part time but I can tell you I have been so happy the days I go to work lately!

One thing that seems to help us is just changing location in the house. So when they get fussy I let them crawl up stairs and walk around up there a bit. I have to redirect them all the time as it isn't fully baby proofed but I'd rather do that then listen to the whining. They've also recently just started liking Elmo's world and that will actually keep their attention for 20 mins or so. It works for me to have some quiet time so I'm all for using the TV as entertainment at this stage.

We are so there right now at 15 months. I keep thinking that I need to get a part time job to get out of the house some days but then I keep hoping the "phase" of whining will go away. We get out alot and that seems to do a nice attitude adjustment.

Ughhhh, that was one the worst!!!! The CONSTANT "eh, eh, eh, ehhhhhhhh", it got so much better once they could communicate.
