My girls both are on omnicef for sinus infections. They have been on it for 3 days now. I'm not sure if its related or not but tonight Tori had a huge loose marroonish/reddish poop. Is this normal when on antibiotics? She seems fine but I'm worried its blood or something.

I"m not sure i'm able to help you out but ours were on antibiotics and we never had a problem though my mother said to watch their "poop", though they had been on a medicine for a sinus infection also (it was blue) and we didnt have any problems. Also, maybe think back to what you fed her earlier in the day. I know we tried prunes just to make sure that there was no reaction- only tried them once and Landon filled his diaper and it continued up his back to his neck. It was a little bit different in color as well so... Anyways, i wish you luck and hope that everything is okay.

Omnicef will definately cause diarrhea, not sure about the color.

I'm probably no help because my guys are a lot older, but they have been on Omnicef also X3days no loose stools here. Every child reacts differently to antibiotics though so if you are concerned I would call pedi and talk to on call RN, or MD.

My dd Mikayla has been on omnicef twice for ear infections. Our omnicef is strawberry flavored. Maybe that is why her poop is turning reddish. Check your omnicef....is it strawberry flavored??

Call your pediatrician. Usually if there is bleeding up high in the GI tract, it gets digested and comes out looking like coffee grounds (black) and if there is bleeding low in the GI tract then you see actual (what they call frank) blood. A few drops in a stool may be associated with a tiny tear in a vessel from constipation or irritation from diarrhea. Either way, call tonight if there is someone to answer the call and describe it. I'll bet it's the meds but I'd sure hate for it not to be.

Hope you all get better rests once the sinus infections and funky poops clear up.

Yes, that is normal with omnicef. Both of mine are on it right now too and have the same thing. I freaked out when I saw it yesterday and then looked at the sheet that came with the med. and it said that can happen. No need to freak out, it is normal with omnicef.

Don't freak out about this. My doctor warned me about that before they took omnicef. And guess what....they had a little red tint to their poo. It's perfectly normal and as long as it doesn't look like it is blood and the poop is just a reddish color, it's the Omnicef. Like a pp said, it is strawberry flavored.

On the other hand, if you think it is blood....call the pedi. Otherwise, just see how the next couple of poos are.

My friend's son is just coming off Omnicef and he's had trouble with severe diaper rash while on Omnicef (because of the loose stools)....watch out for that, too.
