Didn't think my first post in this forum will be about this, but both girls seem to have developed first a runny nose, and now one has a cough and the other seems to have congestion. I'm just terrified that it's RSV. And today we were going to take them to a studio for their photos. I know that the photos is not the end of the world, but it just seems like it's all too much for me. I'm going to call the doctor as soon as the office opens.

Keep us posted...I just hope your sweet girls just have a minor summer cold. And I hope they are feeling better very soon!

I'm with Nancy, hopefully it's just a little summer cold. Good luck at the doctor's, I hope you find out it's nothing big.

Don't overlook the possibility of sensitivity to milk. In hindsight, congestion and runny/stuffy nose was one of the first signs we saw, and it started around 3 weeks old. We didn't think much of it since our boys were December babies, but when we figured it out a month or so later, it all started to add up.

I know its so hard not to worry. It's most likely just a cold (or a dairy sensitivity) with an older school aged child in the house they are bound to get a cold.
How's breastfeeding going? Remember that's the best thing for them. Feed as often as they want and snuggle up close--they will pass their germs to you and you will make antibodies in your milk.

    Thank you for your comments.

Thankfully, it's just a cold. Phew!

Meaning, that if I eat dairy stuff, they can have this reaction?

Yes. It's not terribly common, but mine definitely had it. My guys had green, mucousy poop, and were so stuffy and congested that they sounded like Mack trucks! The other thing was at about 5-6 weeks Sebastian started showing symptoms of colic. All of this cleared up within 2 weeks (I believe it was 11 days) of completely eliminating all dairy.

I'm so glad your babies don't have RSV!

Yep. My boys were formula babies, so they ended up on Nutramigen (they are also soy intolerant), but I have a friend who had to completely eliminate all dairy while breastfeeding. If the cold symptoms persist or you start seeing other signs (fussiness, lots of gas, green or mucusy (is that a word??) diapers, etc.), it might be worth it to try eliminating dairy for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. But hopefully it IS just a cold - VERY glad for you that it's not RSV!

Well, they both are very fussy and gassy after each feed (and constipated), though they only started with their stuffy/runny noses last night. I'll give it a few days and take it from there.

Glad to know it isn't RSV. Breastfed babies tend to be gassy.. a gentle massage, clockwise around their belly button might help, or moving their legs like riding a bicycle. How did the pictures go?

The gas today has been awful. Not sure what my next step will be.

They were little terrors, screaming and crying for most of the session. But I just posted a photo in Twinstuff Club forum.

Perhaps because sick kids belong at home?

Seriously? I took them to the doctor who said it's only a runny nose, they had clear chests and everything was fine other than their runny noses.
