Hi! Please tell me what you think. This ultrasound was from wednesday, either 4 or 5 weeks along. We couldn't see anything except sacs. I have another appointment on the 19th to check for heartbeats, and I'm soooo anxious! My doctor said, "Don't be surprised if there's only one left on the 19th. A lot can happen in this time."

Did he HAVE to say that?! I'm so paranoid now!! I've felt from the beginning that there were 2 in there. My hcg is quadrupling every 48 hours, which he said was good, so we'll see. Since I've had the feeling it was twins, and 2 sacs were seen on the ultrasound, it just seems too good to be true.

I just need words of encouragement!

    Thanks!

:wavey: Olivia! From being on this site and from my own personal experience, it seems that most doctors do say that to their patients when twins are found so early on. It really sucks to hear it. I would suggest to try and not stress about it {I know that is much easier said then done} but there isn't much you can do about it now. Just hope for the best. And we'll be right here hoping for it too!

    Olivia,
I was on the same situation as you are now almost 3 years ago. I was 7 weeks pregnant, the ultrasound showed 2 yolk sacks. At 12 weeks, I had an ultrasound and they were still there...Thanks God! Now I have 2 beautiful girls that will be 2 years this month. ;)
Don't worry about it and that hang in there!
Congratulations! You will have double the joy!

Thank you!! I know I'm pregnant, but is it too early to say I'm pregnant with TWINS?! We haven't told anyone I'm even pregnant and don't plan on it until AFTER I see those hearts beating.

    Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure the doctors have to tell you that when twins are detected so early. Mine weren't detected until my first ultrasound at 10 weeks and there were two heartbeats and then at my 12 weeks they were still there and growing with healthy heartbeats. I've read somewhere, something about once the heartbeats are heard/seen, then they are viable.
We'll all pray for you and hope the time flies by with as little worry as possible.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy. :D

Hi. I too was told the same thing. We had IVF and were told that from the start. We were fortunate to get prenant on the first cycle. On our first u/s there were two sacs, dr. told us the same thing, not to get our hopes up for the second (he said that it didn't look as healthy as the one). On our next ultrasound we had two heartbeats, and three little beans, dr. said tat it looked like the one had just recently stopped, he said that it was very possible that it may have developed a heart beat,(due to the size being the same as the other two) but just didn't make it. The other egg had split. I have two beautiful healthy 18 month little girls.
I know that it is hard, the next nine months will be difficult, but try to stay positive, it will make everyhing so much easier! Congratulations. And there is so much support here, I wish that I would have learned about this site during my pregnacy, because I had a tough time keeping myself positive during my 35 weeks.

    Hi Olivia,

We went through this too! Our Dr. had said this through 12wks, just to warn us. I just told myself there was nothing I could do. This took some of the pressure off. A few people knew we were going through IVF, so I happily told them that, 'we have twins, it's still early, but so far so good'.

I know it's frustrating, it will be like this through every milestone (u/s).
Hang in there, I wish you the very best...please make sure you update us!

I had an idea that I was pregnant, I had taken two tests that showed positive, but I was also taking some medication to help me lose weight, so I didn't know if that had messed up the tests. Anyway, one day I started having some cramping and it felt like I was miscarrying. I went to the ER and waited 10 hours for an ultrasound. They also checked blood Hcg to confirm the pregnancy. We were 6weeks and 5 days. The doctor who came in with the results chose his words very carefully and said "I see two sacs, but it does not mean they will both make it." So, in one sentence I was hearing two BIG pieces of news.
    1. I was pregnant with TWINS!.
    2. I could lose one of them, or both.
We did not see anything in those sacs, no babies, no HB's, no fetal poles (where they attach to the sac)
We were told to return to my regular ob/gyn on Monday to see if we could see heartbeats on an US, my doc didn't want to do an US right away and instead we had to wait about a week and a half, but we sure did see 2 heartbeats and two little babies floating around in there. We are now 23 weeks and going strong.

    I am thinking about you!!

The doc said the same thing to me. The midwife hadn't seen anything on u/s after my positive test so they sent me for bloodwork thinking it was just too early. Before I could go for the second blood draw, the doc called me saying my numbers were out of control to not see anything and get there fast. I was thinking ectopic. I get there and as soon as he started he said "how the he!! did she miss THIS" and told me it was twins. I about fell off the table! He said one was a good bit smaller than the other so it was possible that one would vanish. I went back ten days later at about 7 weeks and he said the same thing. At 8 weeks we saw both heartbeats. I still think the smaller one was my girl because she has always lagged behind. She never measured as big as him the whole way through, didn't grow as fast and was two lbs smaller at birth. Prayers and good thoughts for two sticky babies for you!

olivia, i was in the exact same boat as you...we saw two yolk sacs but the dr. said not to count on it until we heard the heartbeats (which we did at the next visit). i was also frustrated b/c i couldn't really tell anyone i was pregnant and couldn't say if it was twins or not until those heartbeats! it's terrible having to wait, but hang in there!

We did IVF, so we knew it was twins very early on! A week after my first blood test I went in because I was having brown
spotting. My doctor said it was no big deal, to be expected, but of course I was freaking out so I think he let me come in
just to please me. He saw two sacs, one had the yolk(?) I think. This was at about five weeks. He was pretty confident because
when he was looking at the screen he said, "the only thing you need to worry about is how you are going to pay for two college
educations!" I was so paranoid for the next two weeks. Then, at seven weeks we went in for our regular scheduled appointment
and there were two heart beats! He said congratulations and sent me on to my regular OB.
    Good Luck!

Thanks! That's really all I'm trying to do: NOT STRESS!! I told my husband today, that until I get my second ultrasound next week, I'l going to pretend the first ultrasound never even happened. That I know I'm pregnant and that's it. So when I go in next week, if we see 2 heartbeats, THEN I can get EXCITED and cry all over again! :D

    Thanks again Ladies!

I think a lot of doctors say that.

We had our first ultrasound at 7 weeks, and the the way the doctors talked to us, we figured we had a 50/50 chance at best to end up with twins! We're now 26 weeks with two growing baby girls!

I found out at 4w6d that it was twins and my even though the ultrasound tech and everyone else in the office was excited my Dr wasn't she told me we would just have to wait and see. After having a miscarriage a few months before that was heartbreaking to hear. I went back a few weeks later and saw both heartbeats and she still said we weren't out of the woods yet. It was so hard to hear all that! However here I am at 23 weeks and they are doing great!
