Please Help! Need Advise :)

Hi,
I hope that someone can help me out here!
DS has been coughing only when he lays down for a nap or at night time.

I took him to the Dr last Monday and she said "Oh, it's just a cold and it will pass you can give him some trimatic cold/cough med. and it should clear up.

Ok, well same thing still happens right when he lays down he coughs then he will stop once he is good and alseep and then when he starts to wake up it's the same thing coughing. But, once he's up and out of bed he's fine and doesn't cough anymore.

On Tuesday the twins had a wellness check up and the dr said that his chest was clear and everything was fine. I tried telling her about the cough and she just replied and said oh, alot of kids have drainage and it sometimes causes a cough but, that he's fine!

Ok, but he's waking himself from naps, & during the night, & early morning.
My question what is still causing the cough? Is it allergies and drainage? Has anyone else dealt with this?

I have not dealt with this but I would be persistent with the doctor and let them know that he is coughing to the point of waking himself up! Sounds like it could be an allergy.

 

Probably drainage & allergies to the spring. Do you have a humidifer... that's in his room? Try it, it may help... Check your furnace filter too it could need replacing.....

Does anyone give their children allergy med? I'm wondering if Children's Clariton or Zyrtec would help?

 

We keep a humidifier in the girls' room if this happens because their throats get irritated from post-nasal drip. If their lungs are clear that is good, but obviously if you think your concerns aren't being addressed by the pedi call again and ask about meds or other ways to help your lil ones.

 

The humidifier has really helped us a lot. I also elevate the mattress a bit. GL!

I second this. I will usually elevate the mattress with a pillow underneath it. If the cough continues, I would go back to the pedi. Good luck and I hope your little ones feel better!

We just went through exactly the same thing!! The boys were getting over ear infections and I thought the cough was still due to that. At their 18 month appt the dr. said "do you have allergies?" and I have them horribly. She told me to give them Clariton at night until May (when the pollen subsides in FL). It worked INSTANTLY! I can't remember the dose she suggested (I want to say 1/2 teaspoon), but mine drink out of the cup and I think they get more than that (but less than a teaspoon). I felt bad about them taking it every night, so I have been skipping a night here and there and the boys have done well. I hope you (and the little guy) get some relief!
