My dds have learned to pull up on things which is great and exciting but I'm now finding it to be the most nerve racking thing I've ever experienced. Lorien is pulling up on EVERYTHING. She can't walk yet and doesn't really cruise yet (although she thinks she can). The problem is, the majority of the floors on the first floor are hard tiles. Lorien has already fallen several times. Today she had another pretty bad fall and I completely freaked out cause it happened while I was doing something quick in the kitchen. I heard the very loud boom sound of her head hitting the floor followed by the very loud scream/cry and ran in and found her laying on her back by the stairs on the floor. I hadn't yet covered the staircase which I usually do with the packnplay which is a good temporary fix till we find a gate that will work with the way our stairs are built. She pulls up on the chairs in the kitchen but everytime I see her starting to fall, my heart actually stops. I swear to God I'm going to have a heart attack!!!!!!!! What do I do? Is this the time that I should start putting them in walkers? Are walkers good? My one friend swears by hers but I thought doctors don't recommend them anymore? Or am I confused with something else? I don't know what to do. I want them to continue to learn to pull up and eventually cruise and then walk but how in the heck do I get over my horrible fear that I'm going to be calling 911 one day cause my dd has a cracked skull??? HELP ME!!! (please, thank you.)

We have wood floors, and when I need to leave the room for a second...I have walkers for them. I think they can be dangerous if you have them near some kind of step they can turn them over on, other than that...they are great!!

I am going through the same craziness here! Jake pulls up on everything, thinks he can walk, and just lets go!! [IMG]We also have hardwood floors which are not at all forgiving to baby heads. [IMG]I have threatened to put him in a crash helmet!

As far as the walkers go, I LOVE THEM! I know peds don't necessarily recommend them now, but really, I don't know what I would do without them! I have 2, and they chase each other around the house in them, literally running! They absolutely love them! I think it is just like any other baby entertainer, don't leave them in it 24/7, and make sure they are supervised, especially if you have steps, and let them run!!

Maybe you can get a superyard and an extension and put foam mats in it with other stuff like a leap frog table etc. and they can play in there and pull up to their hearts desire and when they go boom, it's padded!

One Step Ahead actually does have a crash helmet for kids! I'd prefer a walker tho. Just make sure all the stairs are gated (particularly the ones that go down).

If you have the true hard tiles my sister had in her house, I feel for you and would be scared, too. I would consider buying some affordable rugs for the room they are in most, even just for the next couple months while they are getting their secure walking legs. Those tiles are pretty, but so not child friendly. Good luck.

I love my walkers! I could not live without those things! Kevin is finally getting the hang of it and Patrick motors all over the place.

We have all wood or tile floors too except in the nursery. When they were first learning to pull up I just stayed close unless they were in their carpeted room. Then I let them crash b/c they need to learn "how to" fall on their bottoms. Like everyone else suggested when I can't be close by(which is more often than not) I put them in their walkers or their playard. They LOVE following me around the house in the walkers and it allows me to get some things done. They also will play in their playard without be having to be right there so we bought one of those foam ABC mats.

    Ditto! Mine loved theirs!

Our pedi actually said she used them with her kids as well... and no bad rants about them. Of course just be VERY careful if you use them around stairs. Fortunately I didn't have any stairs to worry about.
