Sorry guys, this might me TMI, but increasingly today I've been getting these sharp jabs high up in my vagina.

I was talking to my friend and told her about it as she has just had a baby if she remembered that and she said yes, she had spoken to her midwife about it at the time and been told it was the cervix shortening and softening.

My problem is that my cervix has already shortened to 2 cm. so the last thing I want is for it to soften and shorten even more.

But I already had a false alarm on monday with a backache, that turned out to be just your average backache, so now I'm a bit hesitant. I don't want to be "that" woman that cries wolf all the time. But I'm also a little bit worried because it's just too early !!!!!

Please, if you have any advise, or insight I'd so appreciate it. Has anyone had this themselves ?

    Thanks you guys.

Didn't have pains like that - but I did have a rapidly shortening cervix - and if yours is already at 2cm (at my doctor's this required hospitalized bedrest) I wouldn't hesitate to call and check it out - believe me - it's not worth it to wait when you can get it checked out and feel so much better!

I have had pain with both my first pregnancy and this twin pregnancy. The sensation is hard to describe, mine is sharp quick almost like an electrical shock, but mine felt more up by my cervix.
I felt this earlier on this pregnancy.
I would go ahead and call the Doctor and see what they say, it could be nothing but you will feel better once you know for sure.

Let us know what you find out

I had bad vaginal pain at 26 weeks. I worked a 12 hour shift then went to L&D to find out that I was in PTL. They had to give me terbutaline shots to stop the PTL and I received the steroids. Mine felt like a speculum was stuck in my vagina and a lot of pressure with it. I would say you should be checked. Call your OB and let him know. Better safe than sorry.

I would definitely call your doc and get checked.....MUCH better safe than sorry. Don't worry about being the preggo who cries wolf: it's better that than ignore a symptom. Your doc(s) should be completely supportive of that.

That said, I've felt for the last ten days or so like I was being kicked in the cervix, and was getting worried that someone was trying to escape! When I saw my ob and she checked it, she said "no wonder you feel like you're getting kicked, you are. I feel little feet."

So it could be nothing, or it could be PTL - make the call and the trip! Keep us posted.

Call! They would want you too anyway - it's always better for it to be NOTHING rather than be something!

Hoping it is nothing! GOOD LUCK!

I fought back pain for 3 days thinking it was yet again kidney stones that i had at week 18. Nope- it was back labor- at week 23 1/2. So, I would rather be the woman who cried wolf because no one is going to remember that next year- than to be sorry for not getting checked out. I often think if I would have called sooner if it had made a difference. ?? Best wishes.

thanks guys. I'm definately calling as soon as they open in the morning (it's the middle of the night here)....even though this pain seems to have eased off again. I'll let you know what they say.

You are the greatest !!! thanks again.

Well I spoke to the midwife and she doesn't think it's anything to worry about as i'm not cramping aswell. Apparently this doesn't even warrant them taking a look, so there is nothing more I can do until and unless I start having painful contraction aswell.

    ........

(don't know if to be relieved or annoyed that they're not even going to take a look to make sure ! )

I have sharp pains sometimes and I also get an ache in my pubic bone (like someone kicked me really hard). My doctor and u/s tech told me it is because one of my twins is so low and parts of her are down in my pelvis. This puts pressure on everything down there and makes it painful sometimes. Mine seems to get worse at night.
