my girls are 2.5 months and it seems like they sleep more than play. their schedule is eat, sleep, play but mostly eat and sleep since their sleeping cuts into their playtime. this is supposed to be there schedule: i feed them for an hour (they are slow eaters), then they usually get sleepy and will sleep for an hour, then i will wake them for playtime for an hour until they eat again. the thing is, when i wake them for playtime they are sooo cranky that they don't even want to play all they want to do is go back to sleep until they have to eat again. i feel bad for waking them up because they just scream, cry and act like they hate playing. so, lately i've been letting them sleep because afterall, babies need their sleep but i'm only getting like 30 minutes of playtime at a time and it's really starting to get to me. i would LOVE to interact with them more and talk with them more but they seem uninterested. is this normal? should i wake them up to play even though they hate it or should i just let them sleep? i'm hoping that this is a phase and it will soon pass...what do you all think?

    TIA! :itwins:

Our play time was only tummy time. That was enough for them and they were back to sleep after a bottle. Mine didn't play much until about the end of 3 months (adjusted).

At that age mine mostly slept also. Playtime consisted of me singing to them on their boppys because mine were sleepy preemies.

I wouldnt wake them to play. They are little and need their sleep. The playtime will come when they start staying awake for longer stretches. Mine started staying awake longer around 3-4 months. For now, I would say enjoy your peace and quiet.

My girls are doing the exact same thing this last week (they are 11 weeks). I also feel like I'm not getting enough quality interaction, although I'm grateful for the little breaks! Glad to know mine aren't the only ones doing this at this age.

    play at 2.5 months? none.

They are too little to play at that age. They still spend most of their time sleeping, eating, pooping etc.

Wake a sleeping baby?? No way! not unless they are getting their day and night mixed up. be pateint. They are busy growing and developing. They will interact more in a few months.

Agree with the other posters... 2.5 mos. is too early / little to worry about play. Simply being "awake" and viewing the world, listening to you, watching your face as you feed, bath, and change them is "play" and stimulation enough. And it will continue that way for months.

I was CRAZY with my first about play... With my twins, I'm more relaxed because I now know that they naturally will start to interact play more as they get older. Think more like 5 mos and beyond! :)

Showing them the world... reading books... these are good activities to keep YOUR brain stimulated while being with them all day!!! :)

Don't wake them to force it... Let sleeping babes lie!!! :)

I totally agree. Your LOs need to sleep a lot at this age, it´s how they grow, so let them. You will soon be wishing they´d sleep once they start staying up for longer strretches! LOL!
