I think I've lost it & need someone to explain it to me. I use the playtex drop in liner bottles. The box says its a 8oz bottle. The liners say they are 8oz liners but the bottle only has a 6oz marking on it. I normally put 3 scoops of formula (3 scoops for 6 oz) and then fill it up...here's my question though ~ should I be putting in 4 scoops & filling the bottle up to the top w/water? Is this equilvalent to 8oz? Ya'll probably think I'm crazy for asking this but the bottle doesn't say 8oz, it only says 6 and if its truly an 8 oz bottle then I'm not giving the babies the right amount of formula..now I'm wondering if that's why they split up so much because I've watered their formula down too much...make sense?

I think that if you fill them up all the way with water, you should be adding four scoops.

when I used the liners, I was confused too. To solve it, I mixed it up on a different tupperware container and then poured it. I was always afraid that the soft liners didn't shake and mix well (no reason behind that...just a crazy new mom thought ;) ) Besides, if you add 8oz of water (to the top) then you probably don't have any room left to add the mix, right? Because it will actually make an ounce or so more than what you want. Does that make sense?

I had to laugh because this was a huge issue for us!!! For the life of us we could not figure out what they actually were getting. We put the water in an 8 oz measuring cup and after adding the correct amount of scoops, the water goes to the very top of the bottle. Does that make sense? Every family member was part of this problem solving experience for us and I also posted here about it!

Edited to add...I just went to look at the measuring cup and it was 6 oz. so we did 6 oz water to 3 scoops and that went all the way to the top.

It is confusing even for people who aren't sleep deprived :)

I never trusted the lines on the bottles so I would measure it out in a measuring cup and then pour into the bottles. I know that adds an extra step which is annoying, but I was pretty anal. Only one of the girls used these bottles and the other used those old school Gerber ones.. I switched them both over to the Gerber ones since they are doing better about gulping air now and I got tired of buying the liners (even with the cheaper target ones the cost really adds up). Sorry I don't have any advice- just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone. -Leighann

We use those bottles and we love it! The babies can suck it in even if they aren't tilting their head back and they held it a lot sooner than other babies. We also did as one of the previous posts, we mixed it in a container and poured it in after. We would mix a day's worth of bottles, put them in the bottles and in the fridge. We would put the bottle in a glass of hot water to warm it up when needed.

I was going to say the same thing. :)
The very top of the bottle is 8oz, they can't make it easy can they. :)

Ya'll might think this is funny, but if you actually mix the formula in a pitcher and measure and pour into the bottles, the liners will actually hold more than 8 oz. We discovered this with the 4 oz liners. Our girls were actually eating 6 if we mixed the formula and water in the bottle. I couldn't figure out why they would sometimes leave 1-2 oz in the bottle. Then I got anal and actually measured it witha measuring cup. Boy was i surprised!!

    Hope this helps

I went throught the same confusion when we switched to powder. I called playtex bec. Matty was spitting up and they explained that there is a marking on the liner for 4 and that 8 is to the top of the liner.

I started to use a 16oz pyrex mixing bowl and added water first then scooped in 8 scoops of powder. The mixture of course, rose above the 16 oz mark. Then I poured 2 8 oz bottles to the very top. I usually have a little less than 1/3 cup left over. But after all the figuring and confusion this makes me feel lik I am really giving 8 oz.

To much thinking hurts my head...LOL

i use them too and i am still using the 4 oz and i swear if you fill it up its almost 5 oz. LOL... i make mine in the mixer pitcher from pampered chef and then i fill the bottles. If you go to the top it is 8 oz.

I agree with PP about mixing it in a separate container and then putting it into the bottles.

My boys spit up a lot and they were miserable, They had reflux and it was like I had the happiest babies after I talked to the doctor about reflux and got them on zantac... We switched drugs a few times after that but if you're having a problem with spitting up a lot and or cranky/colicy babies I would suggest talking to a pedi about it.

    We also used Gentlease formula.
