    Hi,
I was just wondering what strategies you all have for organizing the playroom? I am planning a major revamp this week and need suggestions.
I can;t cope with the clutter. [IMG]

So funny that we are all thinking this after looking at the overload of toys we have now that Christmas is here!!!

I have a bin storage shelf to put all the little toys. A toy box or bigger items and a plain old plastic tub for books. Downstairs I have baskets for toys. I then take about half of their toys and put them plastic storage containers and rotate the toys in and out every couple of weeks.

for the most part everything is down low. i was going to have a wall shelf unit put in but then realized that things should be on their level (or else they'd be climbing up to get stuff).

i don't have the most organized playroom but it works for us. i have 2 laundry size wicker baskets with train tracks plus another bigger wicker basket with race cars. i have a train table and we store hotwheels and thomas trains in small plastic boxes that are clear and look like tackle boxes. they slide under the train table.

i bought the low shoe racks that look like mini bookshelves. one of them has books on top and larger books laying flat on the middle shelf. the under part is good for miscellaneous games. i have another shoe rack that has those canvas cubes that you see at target and places... anyway i bought those in all kinds of bright colors and have mostly baby toys in those.

so basically i use baskets, canvas cubes, clear boxes and low shelf units.

good luck, it's a HUGE and constant challenge!

Our playroom is the living room, so it's not very organized. I have a few different storage containers:

    - A small plastic storage unit that has 3 see-through drawers and is on wheels. It's not ideal, because it's so lightweight that the girls tip it over if they pull the drawers open and then lean on them. But at least it keeps the little things off the floor. I might get rid of this soon, because it's mostly baby toys and teethers that they never use anyway.

    - A few large tupperwares for all the little "people" (and animals, cars, etc.) And a couple more plastic buckets for legos.

    - A milk crate for anything soft.

    - Their books go on one of our regular bookshelves, at their eye level. (They know which ones are "their" books and rarely mess with ours -- but I imagine this will change.)

But I'm at a loss for what to do with the little people sets, the school bus, and other biggish things that don't fit in the drawers or the crate. Right now I just keep them on the floor, and push everything up against the wall after the girls go to bed each night. I'd love to get a shelving system, but we'd have to give up the TV to fit it in.

    I bought 2 of these from Ikea:http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv...Number=20087525

They have 3 different sizes of buckets that slide in and have covers. It has been great for organizing most of their toys. Not the large ones but those with many pieces and parts.
Plus, they use the top to play with their cars, trains, etc. It is a nice kids table when you put 2 together.

I'm sure I do something similar as everyone, use big plastic tubs(rubbermaid,etc...) and separate toys into catagories:

    Books
    Cars/trucks
    Dolls
    baby toys
    blocks
    misc.,etc......
They have their own tv in there so we keep their movies/dvds separte from ours as well.
Seems to work pretty good but the toys with lots of parts REALLY bug me cuz I try to keep them all together(Mr Potato Head, games, train sets,aquadoodle,etc.......). Still working on that! LOL!

We have a 6foot book shelf behind a door, that has books on the lower 3 shelves, and on the other 2 have some of the bigger items.

We then have two different size plastic bins, that have misc. figurines (like starwars, power rangers, things like that), Hot wheels, and things like that, in the small ones we have pattern blocks,. and smaller things.

This way if they want to play with something all they have to do is grad a bin and go play.

We also have 2 bigger bins (Rubbermaid) for each of thier train tracks (Geo tracks and Thomas)

I bought a four-shelf metal unit (normally for use in a garage). Each shelf fits 2 15-qt. Rubbermaids and 4 shoebox size. Each bin is labeled. It works GREAT! On that one shelving unit are all our plastic animals, Little People, Viewfinders, stickers, magnets, Mr. Potatohead, Bionicles, Imaginext, doctor's kits, musical instruments, tools, and more, each in their own bin so all the parts are together. We also have a large toybox and a large toy bucket for big trucks and such, and a train table for all the Thomas stuff and accessories.

we have a large bookcase in the living room. the bottom shelf now has all their books on it since the basket was overflowing. the larger books that won't fit on the shelf are in a basket nearby. another large basket holds the musical instruments. the next two shelves have canvas baskets for various small items.

The baby/infant toys are in a basket downstairs in a closet for when we have younger ones over.

The play room downstairs has a small bureau which has different items in each drawer. blocks, coloring books etc.

The baby dolls are taking over the entire house so I need something for them.... any suggestions?

My neighbor took part of her basement and created a living room. the other part is sectioned off with large drawers which are labeled according to the contents. I'm planning of doing that too one day soon.

We have bookshelves in their bedrooms (they have their own rooms) and these hold rubbermaid tubs, baskets, and other large toys. We also have these bins in each of their rooms. Each bin holds something different (Weebles, Little People, Balls, Trucks, Hot Wheels, etc.).

We also have a few storage items from IKEA, including a wood toy box and these bins that are labeled with paint pens for a decorative touch.

I am always on a quest for organizational tools...it just seems that no matter what I do, I can never regain my clutter-free pre-kids home!!!
