So do you provide snacks at a playgroup? If so what kind of things would be good? Do you provide food for the moms?

I'm hosting my first playgroup on Friday and I have no idea what the rules are. It will probably run from 10:30-12.

    I need ideas! HELP!! :help:

I have yet to host one, but the ones I go to, it's usually like Teddy Grahams, goldfish, fruit, juice boxes, that sort of thing. Some moms do the little snack bags, which make things a little easier.

Trish, when I host I put out Fruit and Crackers (goldfish) - sometimes I do mini bagels and whipped cream cheese too!! I usually bake a quick bread or something like that.

I brew coffee and have some flavored coffee mate or something to go with it. The Mom's definitely are part of my plan when I host.

We also require an RSVP in order to confirm our numbers so that no one goes to too much trouble for nobody showing up!

    Hope that helps!

Generally there are snacks for the kids and a little something for the moms. Don't go too crazy. It's only an hour and a half. Generally, coffee and or tea is made available for the exhausted moms and perhaps something light (an assortment of mini muffins, or bagels and cream cheese) to eat. For the kiddos, usually juice boxes (just apple juice is fine, usually every kid likes that) and some simple snacks. Cut up fruit, gold fish crackers and/or some graham cracker type snack is fine. Like I said, don't do over kill. Everyone is so busy keeping an eye on their kids and stopping the kids from fighting over toys or helping a little one who just fell down, that there is little time to really enjoy any kind of a "meal." GL and have fun!!

The pp have offered great advice.

I usually provide similar snack items, although I have only hosted in the summer (since we have room in the backyard, but not so much in the house). I usually do grapes and fish crackers. Nothing fancy. For the moms I've done iced tea and maybe some kind of munchies (veggies and dip or those Costco pita chips and hummus). I think on a cool winter morning though, coffee and muffins sounds perfect. Nothing fancy though. Keep it simple.

Oh, I don't do juice boxes since I don't want a sticky mess all over. Sorry, but some moms don't monitor their kids as closely and soon little ones are roaming with juice. That is a big no no in our house. So I get those little water sports bottles instead. If moms provide juice in a sippy that is one thing, but I can't stand juice boxes!

at our groups we provide snacks and coffee/tea for the moms. Usually bagels & creamcheese & sometimes fruit. The moms bring snacks for their kids and often give bites of bagels/fruit from their own plates.

Some great advice. We haven't done any "playgroups" just playdates. Those are easier, basically we take turns hosting. The kids usually have a snack when we get there and then we all have lunch together and go home. (These are with Julie (juj) and her kids or with my nephew)

I belong to a very large play group in my home town. We have 70 members! If you want to start a play group of your own -- you can by going to www.meetup.com and create/name of your play group, the site cost $19 per month, you can get new members to pay $12 dollars per year ($1 dollar a month), word of mouth, and it is a wonderful because you can leave message, do an RSVP, photos of past play group and etc. You can create meetup business cards and pass it out if you see any twins mom interest of joining the group or your local hospital for multiples class (like I did).

Of course if I was hosting the play group I would provide snacks but if I am doing a breakfast brunch or luncheon. We do request them Moms to bring a side dish, even plastic plates/cups and etc. They would put it next to their RSVP.

We do a lot of activities -- craft, outdoor, private play group, park, zoo/muesums, swimming, birthday celebrations, bookclub, coffee night, MNOs (Mom Night Out) dinner, and etc.

    I hope this helps!

I do provide snacks for the kids and offer the Mom's something as well. When I have been to the other houses, some have had muffins, quiche and things like that.

Usually the kids bring their own snacks in my playgroup but if I am hosting, I'll offer goldfish. I will offer the parents a drink- like any guest- but not food.
