We're having a birthday party for the girls with our playgroup friends in a couple of weeks. They are all almost 3-3.5 years old and a big mixture of boys and girls. It's going to be something simple on a weekday morning. I would love to bring my girls to pick a theme for the party but I know they would probably go with Princesses, Minnie, Dora or something like that. But then I feel guilty because there will be a fair amount of boys at the party. Am I overthinking this?

Just a thought, but with each one of the themes you have mention there is a boy character involved, whether it be Mickey Mouse, Diego, or a Prince. So, for the boys, you could fix up a treat bag or something that included the boy character to go along with the theme that your girls have picked out.

Well even if they pick a more typical 'girl' theme you can infuse some gender neutral stuff in it (Dora/boots, princesses/princes/horses/etc, minnie/mickey). Have fun planning it! It sounds like a great way to celebrate their birthday!!

I'm not so concerned about the favors...doing something gender neutral will be easy. I guess I'm thinking more about the Minnie stuff being all pink and girly. Does that make more sense?

Its a birthday party for two girls so I don't think there is anything wrong with it being girlie :) I took my girls to a Thomas birthday party for a boy (and its pretty boyish), and they had a blast.

Okay, see, I guess that's just what I wanted to hear!! :good: I was looking online and found some pretty cute Dora stuff that wasn't soooo girlie. I might just have to get it and not ask their opinion. Baaaad mommy!!

Ditto the above. We've been to plenty of boy bday parties that were Thomas, football, Spiderman and the girls didn't care.

Not a bad mommy at all! Do it while you can because next year they'll fight you MORE on it.

To be honest...little boys that age rarely (note, I didn't say never) notice that. They like princesses and Dora and things like that, too. So, if you don't even mention it, I don't think anybody will care a bit.

What I do to make it gender neutral is give coloring books as a party favor... something girlie for the girls and something for the boys (Thomas etc).

John went to plenty of Princess parties in his time and never once complained about it. :)
