How do you get rid of the stains on clothing from wet playground sand? Does anyone who has an awesome tip for this stain removal? We were at the park today and the sand was damp. DD1 got a huge sand/dirt stain on her behind. I have her shorts soaking in cold water until I can figure out what to do next. TIA

I don't know about sand specifically, but I keep bins in my bathroom and a tub of Oxyclean. Anything with stains goes straight into water with Oxyclean to soak until the next time I do laundry. Most every stain has come out - even stains that have gone through the drying already by mistake.

I do repeat soaks in Oxyclean (rinsing in between) until the water doesn't turn brown. Then wash in machine. Check when it comes out of the washer -- if there's any stain left, don't put in the dryer. It may take a couple of washes.

I've had some shorts ruined by playground sand, but I've also managed to get it out of a few things. I had no idea (until I became a mom) that sand stained so badly!

Cold pre-wash on organic stains asap helps prevent them from setting (before you do a warm wash with soap) and I do use Oxy Baby when necessary.

Oxyclean works best on most stains that we have... and Shout.

I have used peroxide and cold water on chocolate stains that didn't come out with stain remover. It worked wonderfully! I also like the shout that comes in a bottle with 2 spouts and 2 different solutions (one is pink, one is clear). That works wonders on grass stains.

Thanks!! I also heard from a friend to try Dawn dish soap. I'll try that first since I don't have the Oxyclean on hand. If that doesn't work then I will try the Oxyclean. Regarding the perioxide, I've used that on blood stains and poo stains and its worked great!! Maybe it'll work on sand stains :unknw:.

I've know too many moms who have just thrown away clothing because they couldn't get the stains out. I'd hate to do that to a new pair of shorts that DD1 got for her birthday from Granma.
