Playden, Superyard?

I didn't realize how un child friendly my house is until Nevan pulled to standing last night :shok: We have a staircase with no spindles (open air, looks great but awful for kids!) so there is no way to attach a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs. On the third level where the master suite is, the railing is so high a baby can crawl underneath and fall! These things are very expensive repairs so we need fast fixes until we get to them... we have a LONG honey do list.

Long way of saying I think our only option is a play yard. I looked into the playden but that is pricey. What is everyone using if anything at all? Are they fairly secure as we have dogs that I'd murder if they toppled the yard over onto babies.

We have a superyard, and I don't think you could tip it over before it would actually just slide away, kwim? I have mine set up on those foam play mats, and it keeps it from sliding around on our wood floors.

Ditto! The foam play mats work great.

We bought 2 ofthese . We connected them together to make the play area bigger. To make the area even larger, we use it like a "fence" (i.e. we use 2 walls of our house as the other borders of the playing area). This gate is very sturdy and well made.

Erykah! I think the Superyard with at least one extension is a great solution!! I'm trying to picture your staircase....there's no railing? I want to see it :) Can you take a picture?

Check out the Safety1st website for some good child proofing options too!!

We had a superyard and hated it. The inside edges were a little too hard for my girls, more than once they got all scratched up because of it. Madison would also get her fingers stuck trying to climb it. So we got this playzone Its great, the girls dont get stuck on it, its very sturdy too. I found mine on craigslist from other twin moms. I ended up getting 2 full sets and 2 more extentions and paid $100 for them all together. Even my 3 year old loves to play in it. So check ebay, craigslist and your local MOMs club.

We have a similar situation, a great room with nowhere to mount gates. What I did was I removed on our living room chairs and built a playden in a corner. We did this by buying the "Configure Gate" and some foam mats. This particular gate with a couple of extensions enabled us to create a 4 ft by 6 ft playden for our boys. They absolutely love it and since being in it are excellent at standing and walking side to side. The gate mounts to the walls so our dogs cannot do anything and the kids are safe. Good luck! Here are some links and a pic of our setup!

Wow, all great suggestions, My husband and I were just talking about how to contain them. We've decided that our den is too small so for now, we are going to use our living room for the girls and put my desk and computer in there since I work from home. We just weren't sure what to go with and whether or not these things fall down easily since they pull up on everything now!!!

The superyard (with 1 extension) worked great for us from about 6-12 months. We didn't use it quite as much as I thought we would, because even though it's fairly large, the girls figured out quickly that they were imprisoned. :D But it was still useful, especially if one of us could get in there with them.

Amy did get her toes stuck in it once or twice (trying to climb it), but sort of gave up after that. I don't think it's possible to knock it over, though two babies pushing together can certainly slide it across the floor. We have the foam mats, but A&S would often push it a few feet so one side was off the mat.

Anyway, it's a good short-term solution, though you're still going to have to childproof your stairs somehow -- it sounds like a huge project!

We connected two SuperYards and it lived in our living room for many months. It worked excellently. They do say that too many extensions may make it tippable, but we never had a problem. It worked wonderfully.

We also put it around our Christmas tree that first year, and one around our TV stand as well (until just about 3 months ago).

We have two super playyard (got one off of craigslist and we purchased the other one new)
figured they were worth the money as we can take them with us and use them inside and out and resell them when we are done.
